Re: So Will We Have The Money For Betts????
I agree, we don't want to overpay (again) for a backup rb, but we need to resign some of our guys, e.g. Dockery & Betts, to maintain some continuity & allow the team's chemistry to evlovle. I'm really curious about the #s they've offered betts.

You can't trade him now - I'm talking about signing him so that we could trade him after the season. If we let him walk, we get nothing. It doesn't have to be a bidding war - Snyder can afford to pay a little premium on Betts now in order to be able to trade him for something down the road. It's better than nothing.

I felt like Betts started changing direction better (than I've seen before) sometime during the Carolina game. Comments?

Re: So Will We Have The Money For Betts????
I would definitely prefer to see them let Betts go. I wouldn't want us to tie up valuable cap space in a guy that we could easily replace. I mean, we're talking about a #2 back. What are the chances CP is going to go down again next year? He's been pretty consistent health wise throughout his career.
We could easily get a #2 back through the draft for less money. Look at how many young backs have been successful this year...Norwood(ugh), Maurice-Drew, Maroney, Addai, Bell, and D. Williams. I'm sure there are others. Some of those may have been first rounders, but surely we could find a solid #2 in the later rounds. I'm not saying I want Betts to leave, I just don't want us to tie up alot of money in him when he'll see minimal playing time when CP is healthy. |

If by "consistent" you mean "banged up", then, yes, CP's health has been consistent. He was a couple of hits away from the IR at the end of last season, too.

Unless it's a short-term contract (1-2 years). I'm not sure I understand how the Skins could structure this contract so that it both (1) benefits them if they want to trade Betts and (2) is something that Betts would actually sign. However, I stopped second-guessing Danny-boy's ability to structure contracts so as to minimize cap hits a long time ago.

I think he's always been a very good one cut back. He's quick to hit holes and he's generally pretty decisive. After that one cut he doesn't offer much in the open field other than a spin move here or there.

What running back isn't banged up by the end of the year? He practically carried us into the playoffs last year while rushing for over 1500 yds, again. On 352 carries no less. He played in all 16 games and two playoff games, no IR. So yeah, in my opinion, he has been pretty consistent when it comes to being healthy. He's just been unlucky this year with injuries. |

I couldn't agree more. Plus he doesn't seem to break too many tackles. For his size I would think he would be a just a bit tougher to bring down.

It's not likely we'll get DP for a player that's going to be a free agent in just a few more weeks. Since Portis is our #1 back, I don't know how much the team is willing to pay Betts who will still be a back-up if signed. He's obviously playing for a contract, and while his play has been inspired the last couple weeks, he's still lacking the one thing he needs to be a every down back in this league, and that's blocking. He can run, and he can catch, but blocking in the passing game is where he's lacking, and Portis excells. We have a dilema on our hands, going into the off season with two running backs (both back-up's) in a contract year.

Since you put it that way, I can see where you're coming from. With that many carries I guess the chances of him missing soem time are greater. And I don't see JG reducing the touches next year.
