Question for the historians

Who was involved in the trade made to get Jim Lachey from the Raiders? Just curious to see what kind of a steal it was!!

Yeah, Schroeder for Lachey -- I'd say that was a steal. Schroeder had his moments, even set a few team records that still stand, I think.

Raiders got a good QB, we got a fantastic offensive tackle. Advantage: us.

I got to say that I consider Jay Schroeder to be one of the most valuable players of the Gibbs I era. He never played in a super bowl, but the wins got us over many different seasons definatly got us to them.

Nope we traded them Humphries for a 1st rounder who ended up being Desmond Howard.

Re: Question for the historians

Oakland traded away offensive tackle Jim Lachey to the Washington Redskins for quarterback Jay Schroeder after Lachey had played just one game for the Raiders. Current NFL executive and Raider Hall of Fame tackle Art Shell was the Raiders offensive line coach at the time. Shell remarked to reporters that he was the only one in the room, who said, "Don't do it!" Lachey ended his career as a nine-time all-pro.

Re: Question for the historians

Schroeder still owns the Redskins single season record with 4109 yards passing.

But he didn't really do much after leaving DC.

His best season as a Raider was in 1990 when he passed for 2849 yards, 19 TDs and 9 INTs.

Other than that he was pretty mediocre. The Skins definitely got the better end of the deal with Lachey.

Re: Question for the historians

Lachey had incredible seasons in 1990 and 1991. I may have my facts wrong, but I believe he actually held Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, Pat Swilling, and Richard Dent sackless in 1990. He was one of the few guys who could actually handle White one on one.

Doug Williams may beg to disagree with you on that nice guy part. Whatever he said to JG in reference to his playing over Doug was what got him traded.

Re: Question for the historians

Lachey had long enough career, but injuries took their toll at the end. There was a 3 year stretch where he was hands down the best LT in the game.

Here's a nice article about him, it also mentions Schroeder becoming a problem after losing the QB job to Williams.

I think he's worthy of Hall consideration someday. It's just so tough for offensive lineman to get in, but his name should at least be discussed at some point.

Re: Question for the historians

I should have known that but at 44 my brain just can't keep up like it used to.
I would say that was a trade for the ages as Lachey was the anchor for so many years. Will/Should Jim make the Hall of Fame guys?
