Here's a suggestion for a diversion during this time of year. Go to the racetrack - or one of the off-track emporiums - and dabble in a bit of horseracing.
Matty, I'm still trying to find time to get up to Saratoga for the meet there in August but unless a miracle happens, I'm not going to make it. If I do, we have to have a beer ... or two ... or three ... For our SoCal brethern, find your way to DelMar in August. |

This time of year especially sucks if you're waiting for football and you hate baseball at the same time.
I check into ESPN Radio just to see what the topics are -- and if it's not the All-Star Game, then it's Shaq/Kobe/ and the Lakers. I'm really getting sick of it all. For God sakes bring on the scrimmages and training camp! |

I've been temporarily satisfying my football fix by listening to CFL and Arena 2 (as well as something called the Intense Football League) games online:

Why dont ESPN show Canadian League Football anymore? I know they have not showed them in years but I would think it would do good. CFL would have to do better than most of the programs they show this time of year. They make such a big deal about poker. Some people may like it and it is ok for a little bit but come on. It may be about a notch more exciting than golf.

thanks for the link smoot, listening to some random arkansas AF2 game, and while it'd probably be pretty boring to watch, listening to touchdowns every 2 minutes is actually pretty worthwhile.
twisters got 3 touchdowns on 3 plays... 19-14, and its only 8:50 into the game lol. |

Had I known you lived near Matty, I would have extended the same invitation to you. But I didn't. So consider this a belated invitation - - if I get lucky enough to get to Saratoga this summer. We can enjoy a few cold ones. Skins fan 44: About 2 years ago, I asked a friend who works for an ad agency in NY the same question you posed about why ESPN does not carry Canadian Football League games. His answer was that Disney (who owns ABC and ESPN) does not want to do anything that might upset the NFL and that if they ever even considered CFL telecasts, they'd be sure to run it by the NFL to be sure that everything was OK. Remember, contract negotiations for the NFL TV rights are coming up soon. And Disney supposedly will propose a major change to the NFL this time - so they want to be in the NFL's good graces. |

Thanks for explaining that. But I thought CFL and the NFL were on good terms. They do have a signed agreement with player development. It would not be like they would be competiton. But I guess if they stole one fan that would be too much for the NFL. So Fox Sports Net would be out also. You would think that NBC would try to get CFL, but they must be trying to get NFL back also. I guess it is just like Playmakers being canceled. Well back to golf and baseball. Oh yeah racing on The weekend.

i have trouble staying awake/interested in NCAA/NFLE games cause the talent level just isn't there... but i'll watch NFLE anyways, cause its better than nothing. I don't really think CFL could possibly compete though (especially since there's no NFL right now), "watch us, we're like the NFL, only crappier."
![]() but yeah, greed/ego probably gets in anyways... sucks for the fans though. |
