Meet Kenny Wright

Full Name: Kenny Wright
Born: September 14, 1977 Ruston, LA
Height: 6-1
Weight: 207 lbs.
Age: 28
Pos: CB
Experience: 7 years
College: Northwestern State

Career Stats

Scouts Inc. Profile

Quote:
Wright has good size and good upper-body strength. He uses his hands well in block protection and plays a very aggressive style of corner. He is at his best when he can get up in a receiver's face and jam him and play press man-to-man coverage. He does an excellent job of shuffling and getting hands on receivers and re-routing them. He has very good foot quickness and speed. He can flip his hips and turn and run with most receivers, but he lacks make-up speed if he makes a mistake in coverage. He is not comfortable playing the off technique and is much more effective in press at the line of scrimmage. He is too high in his backpedal and loses steps in his transition. He tends to peek into the backfield and is vulnerable to double moves. He lacks body control and change-of-direction skills. He is a very aggressive tackler, and he plays with a high level of intensity. He is very average in terms of play recognition and occasionally gets himself out of position, and he will miss tackles because he gets overaggressive. He is a big contributor on special teams, and once he settles down and works on his technique, he will be an effective player on the outside.

Re: Meet Kenny Wright

He sounds like a Gregg Williams corner... aggressive, likes to hit, plays physical. Maybe a hidden gem?

Yeah, didn't seem like he had a lot of downside really. I just don't want any PI calls.

I wonder if he played with or against P.Ram in HS. They're both from Ruston, LA.

Re: Meet Kenny Wright

He started all 16 games for the Jags last year, and it sounds like he's had plenty of experience as a starting CB. You have to like that as your nickel CB. Sounds like if Rogers or Springs gets hurt, we'll have a pretty reliable guy to come in and help stop the bleeding. This is a very important signing even though it comes without the fanfare, CB was a big need for us. Sounds like a big upgrade over Walt Harris.

I couldnt agree more. The fact that he started 16 games for a 12-4 playoff team means a lot to me. He sounds like an ideal nickel guy who clearly has the starting experience to step into the breach should Springs or Rogers go down. This sounds like an excellent signing, and I feel pretty good about The Ade at #4.

On a random note Im pretty excited about Demetric Evans coming back...I think the future of our DL could be him and Carter on the outside. Any word on length of contract or terms?

"(Kyle)Williams will become the fourth Ruston High School product to be chosen in the NFL draft. Previous Bearcats who own that distinction are defensive backs Mike Green of the Chicago Bears and Kenny Wright of the Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback Patrick Ramsey of the New York Jets."

" Kenny Wright, who plays cornerback for the Houston Texans in the NFL, won the inaugural Higginbotham Award — setting a school record in both the triple jump and long jump, while running on the 400-meter relay team that set a meet record. Since Wright, several of the legends of the RHS track program have been honored with the Higginbotham Award — including current Washington Redskins' quarterback Patrick Ramsey, who set a school-record throw of the javelin in 1997."

I think they're two years apart

Re: Meet Kenny Wright

At least we have another beast in the secondary.

If anything, we should be able to look forward to some hits on Jacked Up.
