Hard pass on Penix. I don’t like lefties.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I didn’t like him in the first before the game. Now I would not like him at all.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Michigan's defense has been great all season. That's why they went 15-0. Definitely can't knock Penix for not looking great against the best team in the country.
I didn't watch the game, as I no longer care about college football unless its FSU, but it sounds like he was pretty beat up. I just can't get around his likeliness to get hurt, to go with him in the Top 5. But if he stays healthy, he could be the best of the bunch. It's a normal failure risk rate + a higher injury possibility rate, that makes it a no for me in the Top 5.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
He had a lot more good games than bad. Michigan wasn't the only good team he played. The injury history is concerning, but some team will draft him in the 1st...probably top 20.

I heard he's older than most QB prospects and he's had injury too.

I agree, wrong word choice in his case. Trying to make a general point about elite college players who show signs of being 1st or 2nd rounders, but who have trouble once the level of competition is raised. You want to see these guys go against the best to see how they handle it physically and mentally. In any event, it’s a better test than the combine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He is 23 and will be 24 when the season starts. He was injured like three different years at IU. He has an incredible wr corp at Washington. I would pass but ill put my faith in Peters and Co. to make that decision. As far as the championship game, Im not going to shy away from the guy because of one bad performance. He looked pretty good against Texas. |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I think we underestimate the advantage that older, and as such more mature and experienced players, have when playing in college against relatively much younger guys, especially at a key position like QB, and how good that makes them look in comparison. That advantage obviously disappears when entering the NFL.

Exactly. If Penix thinks Michigan's defense is tough, wait till he sees a NFL defense. The sorriest NFL defense is still 10 times better than Michigan's defense.
