Cal Ripken

I was talking to a guy over the weekend at this holiday party, he said he knew a General Contractor who was doing work at Cal's house when of his workers had to fired because he said the following, "How you doing Mr. Ripken."

Supposedly Cal told the contractor I don't want any of your workers looking at me or talking to me while they are here, the contractor failed to tell this one paticular worker who was new... but Ripken demanded he fire him.

I was floored by this. This guys was born and raised in B-more and is big fan, so he is not hating...

you guys ever hear of any stories about Cal??

Re: Cal Ripken

That definitely surprises me. Cal seems like a pretty approachable guy.

Re: Cal Ripken

I dont know if I really belive that. Could be right, but I dont know if someone would have to be fired for it. Even if Cal demaned it, just lie.

Of course, I think it can be a lie, but I grilled the guy telling the story, who by the way was heartbroken to hear this from his contractor friend because he grew up watching Cal, and really did like him. He said his contractor friend would be in jeopardy of losing the contract on Cal's place, so he fired this guy ... who knows?

Re: Cal Ripken

just the rumor about the game he almost missed because he caught his wife with Kevin Costner...that's a funny one.

Here's the link for the story

Re: Cal Ripken

Sorry, but I have to take with a grain of salt any story that starts "My friend heard from his friend..." Especially one that is so contrary to everything else I have read about Ripken.

Re: Cal Ripken

I always take these sort of things regarding celebrities with a grain of salt.

They're people just like us, perhaps somebody caught him on a bad day, or perhaps this story is just exagerated. Then it turns in to Ripken is a dick, and that's based on one experience with a person. Not really a fair way to judge a person.

Re: Cal Ripken

Huge grain of salt. Ripken is regarded as nice guy and it isn't in the mind-set of reporters to really protect athletes from being exposed as jerks any more. I'd be beyond stunned if this is true. I'd say at the very least there is some serious context missing from the story and at worst it is a downright lie.
