For better or worse, according to the Post, Gibbs is sticking with Royal as the starter for next week.

Can't believe what Gibbs said about Royal. Why such loyalty to a player that has never really produced? He can't block and can't catch passes so why he is playing at all? It's amazing - he yanks Ramsey for turnovers, yet praises Royal, who couldn't catch a pass if the ball had sticky glue on it.

This kind of stuff just makes me sick and very discouraged about the Skins prospects for now and the future.

Many on this board preach that we should support the coaches, no matter what. Sorry, I just can't do that 100% of the time. Not when I read Gibbs praising a player of Royal's less-than-mediocre calibre.

Will you lead the parade, step up and state JUST AS EMPHATICALLY that you were summarily, completely wrong about Gibbs and company when they reach the level of success we have ALL waited for?

Don't hold your breath.

If I'm wrong though, I'll happily eat an entire bucket of crow.

Would be happy to. However, like everyone else, I'm still waiting for that to happen. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting . . . . .

Right now, I see a team that is struggling (to put it mildly), just as they have been struggling for the past 10 years or so. I don't know that Gibbs can (for a second time) be our "Miracle Worker". You seem convinced that he will do it, so perhaps your crystal ball is clearer than mine. I hope to God you're right because I'm sick and tired of losing.

However, at what point do we begin to wonder if not even Joe can "right the ship"?

You sound like Tony?
To the point.............I, like you have been waiting lo' these many years since Joe left in 92' for another winner. Still waiting. But, I am for the first time in those years seeing dramatic signs of recovery.
If you think about all of Joe's press outings when he came back, and today (when asked). he describes the jobs as "building a team". His expectations for his 5-year deal are "putting a team in place that will be competative for years to come". "Returning the Skins to respectability". I personally have no problem with this. It takes some time to undo 12 years of chaos! The staff is making the right moves. The team is much improved. We can play (and have) with all comers. This is not a bad team! Neither is it a complete team. For now it is a work in progress. We are definately having probs putting people away. That is not a wholesale kind of change. That is a few personnel moves, and a few tweaks her and there. I am sure they will try to accomplish this in the off season. Gone are the Danny off-season (florida marlins comings and goings). How much negative crap do you hear out of the players-not much. How many players complain about the staff?
Struggling, HELL NO! GROWING??? HELL YES!!!!!!!!! Since Jack Pardee is not available, I prefer to "trust in Joe" Don't forget to smell the roses

You're absolutely right! I don't see the animosity and lack of trust that we had when Schotteheimer was here, nor the complete confusion and helplessness of the Spurrier era. I get the strong impression that Gibbs will NEVER GIVE UP until he has done all he can. Although I'm disappointed in the drop-off over the last few weeks, I'm glad we're at least competitive. In the next year or two, we could win the division, and when we're playing at our best, we can certainly take any team in the East at this moment.

Gibbs isn't going to blast one of his own players or coaches in public, he keeps everything in house where it should be.

Re: (Merged Thread) Robert Royal

The most effective message Gibbs could send is to relegate Royal to second string if he continues to drop easy passes.

Royal deserves a second chance this week. But, if he drops even one pass against the Rams, he needs to sit on the bench.

I don't expect Gibbs to blast him publicly and I've always respected Gibbs for not doing that to his players. Yet, why go out of his way to praise him when there's nothing to praise?

If he were truly concerned about Royal's play, he should have said nothing at all to the press and certainly not praised him as he did. Based on what Gibbs did choose to say, I can only conclude that he likes Royal and likes what he's seen from him. Just can't understand what he's seeing that the rest of us can't. Or is Royal another one of those players who demonstrates something to the coaches that the rest of us mere mortals just can't see?

All I know is what counts is production on the field and, in that arena, I see Royal as a big zero.

Maybe he's trying to give Royal's confidence a boost since Royal probably feels pretty terrible about his performance.
