I would forgive Snyder for all of his mishaps if he came out and said.. " sorry we ain't changing shit and are not going to be pressured into anything"..

And also Ron R has been here 6 minutes and hasn't won a damn game. He should have ZERO say in this..
Couple things, I totally agree that Dan, Nike, Fedex, and any other major company only care about this issue because it's affecting their bottom line of making money.

But Dan can't put Ron in charge of the entire operation (which it is clear he did) and then say his input isn't welcome on the name.

Also Jimbo you bring nothing to this conversation and it pains me that I am on the same side as you.

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue

I think this is an issue that is just going to happen. Dan Snyder is facing the loss of hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars if he doesn’t move. Things do change and this is a done deal - New Team Name

When Snyder makes the change a lot of positive things happen:

1. Some fans come back who stayed away from the team.
2. Hundreds of millions flows back to the team.
3. New name may mean new uniforms, etc.,
Which is more money to the team (although NFL Labeled stuff go into the pool shared by all teams).
4. Snyder can say this is the NEW START for his team after 20 years of mediocrity.
5. He can get the D.C. politicians behind his move to build a new stadium where RFK STADIUM stood.

If Snyder is going on the Native American route then it will depend on couple of things:

A. The tribe has to agree to using their name. They might get paid for it.
B. This may sound stupid but he may go for a tribe name with TWO SYLLABLES. That way it fits into the teams fight song.
C. I would think he would go with a team with a warrior culture. Some tribes were basically peaceful (Navaho). WARRIOR CULTURE
D. A FAMOUS TRIBE that has name recognition. There are HUNDREDS OF TRIBES in America, many of them small. I think he would go for a FAMOUS, PLAINS INDIAN TRIBE that has two syllables, and will allow use of their name:

CHEYENNE

I can’t think of any more teams with all the criteria. Warrior culture tribes like APACHE (3 syllables), SIOUX (one syllable), COMMANCHE (3 syllables) don’t fit. Of course, he could just change the fight song, but it appears that Snyder is going for tradition (keeping our famous fight song intact).

I may be making too much of a tribe that fits the fight song, but if there are hundreds of Native American tribes to choose from, why not pick one where it causes the least changes? I think that is what Snyder is going for.

FAMOUS TRIBE
WARRIOR CULTURE
TWO SYLLABLES (fits fight song)
TRIBE WILLING TO Let the Team Use Their Name

CHEYENNE

Can anyone think of another famous tribe, with a warrior culture, that is two syllables?

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue

On the same theme he could go with

MOHAWK - an EASTERN tribe, warrior culture, well known (a tribe used in the famous American novel and movie, “Last of the Mohicans”)
AND - no need to change the fight song or most of the team gear. They may change the Native American profile on the helmet back to the ARROW profile.

My best guess now:

MOHAWK
CHEYENNE

It will be MOHAWK if the tribe agrees to it. They would get paid to use the name and it would bring positive light on the tribe.

My major issue with this and the same with Redtails or any other name that involves a minority group. There will come a time in the future when the general perception of society will change. Will the name be considered a caricature, an appropriation or embracing a stereotype? Dan needs to think about the endgame here. Does he want to be rebranding 30 years from now because the tribal leader or societal position has changed?

If that Tribe is getting Royalties/Cash Flow from their partnership..I don't see them reversing their decision in the future. That is easy money IF they as a tribe don't see Redskins as a slight (which many native American sports teams are named Redskins)

The NFL may not survive 2020 the way it's going. My interest is pretty much gone.

I personally think COVID-19 and the ensuing fallout could have dealt a deadly blow to the NFL. I think the NFL going out of business is now a possibility. The revenue lost from missing this season has to be huge. And if the pandemic draws on, as is expected, they could lose next season too. Hard to imagine the league staying afloat with no way to play games or generate much revenue.

Yeah, the NFL also strikes me as a league short on cash. Some say the XFL was doing even better than the NFL was.

Do they have enough cash to be sidelined for multiple seasons while the virus calms down? Nobody has that kind of cash and you know it.

I don't think there is a single group of owners that wouldn't be able to wait a year or two out. If not there are plenty of billionaires that would want to get into the NFL if an owner had to sell. I think football is too important to U.S. to not have professional football.

There hasn’t been a better time for a name change and I think Snyder could be inline to make a lotta money from in multiple ways. I’m just ready for the new season.
