Agreed. And if there was a player you like in the 2nd, you could package those 2 3rd rounders for a second.

I think we can do better than two 3rds

Nope. You can't settle. He's under contract...he is essentially claiming to be the best LT in the game with the contract he is reportedly seeking. Therefore, the Redskins need to be compensated accordingly. Two 3rds is not fair compensation in my opinion.

2nd and a 3rd in 2020 is the minimum I'd even consider. Otherwise, I'd rather have Trent play the final year, walk in 2021 and get a compensatory pick in 2022.

Except:
- he wont report or play for us next year (safe assumption)
- next year therefore will not count as accrued so he wont be FA eligible
- we then are in the same boat we are in now, except hes another year older
- even if he leaves in FA, a comp pick is not guaranteed bc we would have to make sure we dont sign an offsetting FA

We can continue to act like Bruce Allen or we can take the best offer and move on.

Ill be shocked with a 1st Round pick for Trent...I just don't see it happening. But Id run to get both a 2nd and 3rd round picks. Id be very happy with that compensation.

I'd take 2 3rd rounders. I want this situation handled. It's dragged on long enough. That's not a great hall but not too shabby either. Like mentioned above they can be packaged to move up if we want to. But you can get some solid players in the 3rd round.

To me it's not just about fair compensation it's about resolving an issue that's been a weight around the neck of the team for over a year now.

I think given the interest level so far we'll be able to wrangle a 2nd out of somebody. His high contract demands are a factor for sure but this is a franchise level LT we're talking about, I think the demand will be there to drive the bidding to round 2 territory.

Probably, the Jets are negotiating, if they make it a 2nd and 3rd in 2020 that would probably do it.

No one thinks Trent sits out another year. Especially after he talks to teams and finds out none of them are going to pay him the $25M he was asking from Rivera. This has always been at least 90% about the money. Several reporters have mentioned that Trent was more willing to sit out last year because he could make up for his lost 2019 salary on his next contract. He's certainly finding out from other teams now that that is almost certainly not going to be the case. So there's no way he's going to compound his mistake by missing out on another 12 Million dollars in 2020 (24 million over 2 years).

Tough call, this is all future hypothetical speak right now so who really knows.

I think its 60% he doesnt report at all if not traded, 40% he does at week 8 or whatever the cut off is to have the season accrue. I just dont see him reporting week 1 and wanting to suit up.

Id rather take 2 3Rs vs "hoping" he reports week 1. What if he doesnt report until week 8 ... that would be a major misplay of our poker hand imo .. all for the hope a 2R and 3R vs 2 3Rs. Payoff is not worth the risk imo. If all you can get is 2 3rs, id take it if that is the best offer we have by say mid August.

Get the best offer you can and move on.

I don't play cards but I would play against a good percentage of the people on this page. Give it some time.

Reporters who have talked to the parties involved know there is no way Trent sits out another year. And it doesn't make sense that he would. He would be cutting off his nose to spite his face - exactly what Bruce Allen did last year by refusing to budge.

As to taking two 3Rs now to hedge against Trent not showing up week 1 - that would be very short sighted. A teams starting LT could be hurt during training camp or early on in the season, in which case the price goes up. If we're not getting offers of fair value (minimum of a second), then there is no urgency to take pennies on the dollar prior this far in advance of the trade deadline.

And if Trent really wanted to be out ASAP, he could agree to take a smaller contract from his new team in exchange for them agreeing to providing proper compensation.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

If he's getting all his advice from his agent, he should seriously consider moving on from him. It's like he continues to think he's playing from a position of power. Perhaps you could have made a case for that a year ago, but certainly not now. I don't care what he gets for a future contract elsewhere, but I do care about what the Redskins get back in a trade. I'm positive that is what the Redskins are thinking as well. He either finds a trade that makes sense for the team, or get ready for OTAs.

Zero chance Trent gives up another year of $$ by sitting
