No pettifogging allowed
Serious compliments only.
I want to say Good Job Chief Justice Roberts. Here is a civil servant of the highest calling. This man started the day yesterday hearing two separate cases from the Supreme Court bench, then hightailed it to the Senate to start the Impeachment Trial sat through 11 hours of rules amendment debates, and then had the presence of mind to scold equally both sides with the obscured reference to pettifogging. Through all the political BS that I and others have put in this forum, i want to commend Justice Roberts, and Mooby in the Skins thread, that civil discourse amongst us Skins fans is best achieved without pettifogging. I have never heard of that word before, was it just recently invented due to what politics in this country have evolved to?

Re: No pettifogging allowed
Actually it was from a 1905 impeachment trial of a judge i believe. Justice Roberts referenced it. It means pettiness.

Yes. i liked how he reminded both sides that they need to remember where they are and where they are speaking. This isnt a news interview or some campaign trail ... its freaking congress and they need to remember that. Both sides.
“I think it is appropriate at this point for me to admonish both the House managers and president’s counsel in equal terms to remember that they are addressing the world’s greatest deliberative body,” Roberts said. “Those addressing the Senate should remember where they are.”
