VLC HowTo
VLC media player - Overview
This howto gives you a brief introduction into file transcoding using VLC. In this writeup, I am converting an MPEG-4 to a WMV. First, start up VLC and click File->Wizard. Next, select the "Transcode/Save to file" radio button and click next. Push the choose... button. Push the Browse... button. Browse to your file and click open. Check both check boxes and select your codecs. Here, I have selected WMV2 and mp3. The output file will be a (you guessed it) Windows WMV file. With a WMV, you need to select ASF as your encapsulation format. Click Choose... to select your output file. I usually just select the file that I'm transcoding and just change the extension. Here's VLC doing the dirty work. The slider will move and the counter in the left corner will increment. When its done, you'll find you're newly created WMV! |

Re: VLC HowTo
cpayne, I was going to make some highlight videos myself. Would you say that before I reencode them, I should save them as MPEG. I'm getting Pinnacle and didn't know what format it preferred.

Re: VLC HowTo
Try looking in the installation folder. I've seen it go a little screwy and save the files there, sometimes.
