Just saying, Smith got guaranteed money from Washington at around 71 million over 4 years. What makes more sense? 71 million guaranteed (in 2015) for a 20-something who has surpassed 4,000 yards each season as a starter? Or 71 million guaranteed for a 34 year old starter who has surpassed 4,000 yards only once in 12 years?

Cousins is your franchise leader in passing yards in a single season. If you check the passing leaders by year for the Redskins history, you will see that 3 of the top 5 seasons (1,2 and 4) are held by Cousins.

How does the team NOT extend this guy?
So you’re saying KC should have gotten $23.5M with $71M guaranteed 2 years ago? Really? We would have crucified the FO for spending crazy money...

I am saying if you are going to spend that money on a 34 year old, you should be thrilled to spend that same money 2 years ago on a 27 year old, that has a better rating, more yards and more left in the tank than a guy 5 years his senior.

In 2016 Andrew Luck got a deal that was worth 140 million (80 guaranteed). Are you telling me that Cousins was NOT worth half of that in 2015 or 2016?

I really don't have an issue with the Alex Smith for Kirk Cousins swap. I knew long ago that Cousins wasn't signing here based on his (and his fathers) words and actions. It doesn't take a genius to read between the lines. Like what was mentioned prior, we can now expect less turnovers from Smith than we saw with Cousins (fumbles and INTs) Maybe that's the difference in some of the games? I just think they gave a bit too much for him but it is what it is. If we get that 3rd rounder back from Cousins departure, it'll soften the blow of losing Fuller.

My only worry with Alex Smith is that he has a 66 QB rating when under pressure. Yikes that's terrible.

Kirk is better against the pressure in the pocket but Smith is better rolling out and finding space. Both are great on PA PASSING, Smith has a better deep ball. To me its a great move for 3 years, he'll be 37 and done by then most likely, Kirk will go on to Denver and see the grass aint always greener

All Smith's teammates like playing for him.

Notice how a bunch of Skins players are pissed Fuller is gone, but I haven't seen one headline about being pissed Kirk is gone.

That is a great point, kelce and others said they will miss AS and actually Kelce didn't seem to thrilled about Mahomes if u watch the video on NFLN last night.

Nobody has even said one thing about Kirk, but VD posted a pic of him and AS and said "we"ll finish together"

I think KC is still a teammate. Players will give him well wishes when he actually leaves.

I believe Alex Smith’s contract is about $71M guaranteed. That’s a lot more than half of $80M. And no, he wasn’t worth anywhere near AL money at that point. If you continue to say that we should have written this contract for KC two years ago I will respectfully continue to disagree. As I said earlier, hindsight is a wonderful thing...

I think they all knew he was leaving, I mean they see and talk to him on a daily basis, and they all knew that the 3 FT wasn't happening.

Agree. It would be pretty effed up to say so long KC you were a great team mate at this juncture. Of course maybe the clubhouse is ready to move on after all the drama.

In 2019 or 2020 Smith could be on the bench or not starting. It will be the same thing all over again in SF and KC. We'll draft a young QB and after winning 6-9 games w/Smith the fan base will grow impatient and want to see the young guy. Meanwhile Fuller will be in the prime of his career.
