I didn't like the prove it tag, because we have a cap guru in eric schaffer who no doubt could have come up with a long term deal that gave us an out a 2-4 years down the road if he didn't pan out. But we didn't even try for the better part of 2 offseasons, it was like they were never serious about it. The lack of faith in him showed, and most likely is what burned us in the end. I mean shit, we benched mcnabb a week after his long term extension, you can't tell me there's no way kirk wasn't worth the money. The cap goes up every year, which makes the contract more manageable. Plus you can do creative accounting if you need to make room.

Matty, i know i'm complaining over spilled milk right now, but this deal allows our current power structure to remain in place despite the fact they are the only franchise in modern day history to screw up having a good qb.

Youse guys complaining that kc can't get us to the playoffs are conveniently ignoring it takes a 53 man roster to get us there. The stats were good. The attitude was good. He showed up every day, put in the work, came in as a backup rookie and made it to the pro bowl 5 years later. Instead of rewarding him for it, they dissed him. And it not only cost us financially, it has now cost us our best up-and-coming young defender. How much money did we save after paying kc 44 mil for 2 years and alex smith 71+ for however many years he lasts? The difference is negligible. I did a quick google search and i can't find the rankings at work rn, but i have seen somewhere that said kc ranks 6th in the nfl in completions over 20 yards and in the same span smith ranks 22nd. That's ignoring all of the other stats, the combined passing td's over the last 3 years, etc.

So to me, this deal screams we just paid kirk big money for 2 years, only to get rid of him and kendall fuller for an older, not-as-good but same neighborhood qb who we still have to pay regardless. Time will tell the tale, but it reeks of incompetency for me. What more do we have to see to know that bruce allen does not deserve to run this front office? Do we have to wait until we slide from mediocre to downright uncompetitive?

I have no idea what would be a better solution at this point in time. I just know it doesn't involve giving away kendall fuller. You build your team around these young, cheap, built-through-the-draft building blocks. And we just gave away two of our brightest success stories of building through the draft of the last few years.

I thought we were on the right track when mcc came on board and decided building through the draft was the smart philosophy. But part 2 of building through the draft means paying the homegrown talent who worked hard to prove themselves worthy. We seemed to have missed that message.

Again to me this is a WIN WIN for the skins and Kirk, he gets what he wants and that has always been to be begged by teams to come play and to leave BA.. We get a proven good QB, that can win many games with the right cast around him NOW ITS UP TO BRUCE to build that cast.

The comparison between Cousins and Smith is meaningless. I didn't say that come from behind victories are a meaningless statistic completely.

What you really want to measure, if you're trying to figure this out, is the number of times a QB led a drive that resulted in a go-ahead score, in the 4th quarter or overtime. And take that number and divide by the number of drives where the QB started it in the 4th quarter or later in a down-by-one-score situation.

What you can't do is say Kirk has 7, Alex has 5, so Kirk must be better at it. It makes no sense. Alex may have done it 45% of the time he had the opportunity to, and Cousins may have done it 33% of the time. It depends upon opportunities.

I'm in data analytics for a living. If you want to measure this, you want a rate statistic, not a counting statistic.

The reason we keep getting fuck is simple to see. Andy Reid and his front office went out and got a QB they loved last year. They didn't need to, but they have a plan.

Skins consistently don't have a plan...they are reactive and therefore get their ass handed to them routinely. This Alex Smith trade, folks this is nothing new. Fuller in the trade is again epically poor.

Now look at the Facts..Cousins has gotten better in a system that seemed to fit him better as time went on. Look at the injuries in the oline, ZERO at WR, ZERO RUNNING GAME, best TE out.... his passing yards, accuracy, yards per attempt, etc..........he had a great season.

Alex Smith had the NFL rushing leader, a stable oline, much better receiving core and a top 3 receiving TE...had his best year

We just gave a 33 year old QB 71 million guaranteed on a 4 year extension and folks are fucking telling me nothing to worry about with the history of Danny and Bruce?

All I'm telling you is that Smith and Cousins are at the very least, equals. If you don't think so, then you don't understand just how bad turnovers hurt your chances to win football games.

I can't say I have confidence in Bruce Allen. But we're not at all worse than we were in 2017.

The Smith move was a wise one and improves our chances at building a winner. That doesn't mean I have a high confidence that Bruce can lead us by building a winner.

The difference is we have Doug Williams now, he's doing more than people think. Jay also now has a QB that can scramble and doesn't turn the ball over.

Kirk had 13 ints and 13 fumbles this yr. Smith had 6total. Huge difference.

Yeah Alex wont have many 350 yards games but he will still have 26 tds next yr because hes great in the RZ.

Not sure I agree.

Just saying, Smith got guaranteed money from Washington at around 71 million over 4 years. What makes more sense? 71 million guaranteed (in 2015) for a 20-something who has surpassed 4,000 yards each season as a starter? Or 71 million guaranteed for a 34 year old starter who has surpassed 4,000 yards only once in 12 years?

Cousins is your franchise leader in passing yards in a single season. If you check the passing leaders by year for the Redskins history, you will see that 3 of the top 5 seasons (1,2 and 4) are held by Cousins.

How does the team NOT extend this guy?

Kirk deserved better then this franchise, class act hope he is the next TB.

So funny to think back to the RG3 draft and think we had to potential franchise QB's and now look at us.

This trade is just another chapter in the book of how not to run a team.

I will say the off season has just begun, got wait to see how it all folds out. But if history is indicator of future performance my hopes are low.

Seems like some people just want to stomp their feet and whine. Let us know when you want to move up to the big boy table and talk about moving on.

1) He didn't ever even enter into real negotiations including the first year. People in hindsight are saying we should have paid him, but if we had signed him to a deal he might have signed, and we had the years we had, the contract would have been considered a mistake.

2) He was asking more at each point than he was worth. See DeMarcus Murray as an example of a team letting a team leader go when the contract demands are too high.

3) He simply didn't want to be here. No team can waive a wand and extend a player that isn't negotiating.

It's not rocket science.

They didn't extend him because the owner and his butt buddy didn't draft him. He was better than RG3 and they basically never embraced Cousins. That's why Cousins never got a LTD. It was all about egos, pride and hurt feelings.
