I know I may be a smith critic but when you look at that trade you guys will hopefully score big for cousins. I would take cousins in a minute over smith but I understand his contract demands putting you off. We had a similar situation with houston. Waited too long to extend him now he makes almost brady money at outside lb. Knowing what a qb driven league it is I feel for skins fans such a tough spot no right answer. Sign cousins you payed too much let him walk and a potential if not already franchise qb leaves.

The distinction is important because based on all those factors, I would compare Kirk to Alex as very closely skilled, Kirk absolutely has better future potential, and Alex has better value in terms of cap value but when considering what we gave up for him it's probably at best a wash.

If you're just referring to skill, that is only part of the full picture (ie. I'd rather Wentz than Brady right now but only because of future potential), but I'll play along:

Brady
Brees
Luck
Wentz
Rothlisberger
Wilson
Rivers
Rodgers
Ryan

I think are all definitely better, but there are about 6-8 that are probably better (Cousins, Stafford, Goff, Carr, Newton, Palmer) , and another 4-6 that might be better (Manning, Keenum, Winston, Mariota, Watson)

He's about a top 15 QB.

I'm talking talent only.

I can agree on the 9 you listed, I'd even put Stafford with them.

All the others are close and debatable.

So yeah, we agree, Alex Smith is a top 15 to top 10 QB.

Isn't that what most of us here thought of Kirk. Maybe more top 12 to top 10?

So, set aside the age factor, I don't see how we clearly got worse at QB (for next season).

Anyway, keep in mind Kirk was gone anyway, and we clearly got the best QB available/gettable.
Didn't we ?

you will go wanting. Gronk is injured alot now kelce is the best tight end, kareem hunt was top 3 rb in production, tyrek hill can not be covered down field. Smith will break your heart. The long ball stats are an illusion. He completes wobbly duck 30 yard passes that others would have scored tds on. WR waits for smith duck db catches up to hill makes stop. FG instead of TD.Outsiders like you see stats regarding 30 yd completion and think he's good.
May GOD have mercy on you guys but smith as your qb will drain your soul.
A fan that doesn't like their QB, say it ain't so.

Plenty of Skins fans were less than enamored with Kirk too.

Just par for the course friend.

In a vacuum, I think the team did the best they could, and they must've known that either Kirk was absolutely leaving or absolutely not accepting any thing less than an insane contract.

We resign Zach Brown, draft Denzel Ward and Sony Michel (or similar players) in the 1st 2 rounds, and bring in a good FA LG and lets get after it.
I do use how they screwed up the KC situation as part of my judgement.

How do you compartmentalize it without taking it into consideration how they screwed up years ago?

So they did their job for once and tried to clean up their mess and we are supposed to be happy with it?

It reminds of the saying "we are trying to make chicken parm out of chicken shit"

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith

KC fans loved Smith lol I lived in OKC and their were plenty of fans there and most of them were thrilled to have him.. IDK why this dude says that.

I know I don't know cousins. As an outsider looking in I saw cousins as a guy who persevered the underdog who made it. But the contract demands that were floated around seemed unbelievable. I suppose it's a grass always greener kind of thing. Whatever your qb doesn't do well you want the opposite.

Probably not, but there's a chance that the Broncos work out a deal with the Skins to sign and trade to avoid the bidding war and square away their QB position before FA.

There was apparently a bidding war for the Smith trade, so there's a hungry QB market willing to trade picks for the chance to sign a franchise QB long term.

Cousins would have to play ball, but if he likes the Broncos, maybe he also just wants to get it done.

It's very unlikely, but I don't think it's off the table.

As a Skins fan compartmentalizing and having a strong liver are the top 2 requirements lol. I compartmentalize every year into a folder and get my kool-aid jug out for following season. 2018 SB champs!

If somehow we could pull this off, it would be some icy hot for the butthurt.

Plus it would be great just throw this in S10 face

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith

Smith is going to help the defense. He may not light up the score board but the low turnovers helps the defense big time. With smith have a good punter and you will get field position advantage often. You won't give up cheap ones so teams will have to earn it against you.

Re: Redskins Trade for Alex Smith

Cousins wants to test the market, he doesn’t want his future dictated in a trade. At this point he doesn’t owe the Skins or anybody, anything. I don’t see a reason why he would go along with a tag and trade.

Don't throw good money after bad.

Our other options were to have Cousins tagged again and being paid 34 million or him walking as free agent and hoping a rookie could play well or start Colt.

Alex is just as good as Cousins to me, and 33 isn't old for a qb, he should be solid thru age 35, by that time we have a young guy waiting in the wings.

I'm just glad the team can start planning their off season and draft now.
