With Alex - Cap hit probably around $18-20 million this year, still have him next year (at around the same cap hit), pick up a 3rd round pick next year (for losing Kirk), and we have to replace Kendall.

So, the question is:

1. Can we replace Kendall (and upgrade other areas) with the $14 million in savings for this year?

2. Is it good to have some guarantee that our quarterback this year will still be our quarterback next year (and for basically as long as we want him to be in the foreseeable future)?

If Alex can perform even close to the same as Kirk in our offense (or even better), then the QB's are even, the 3rd rounder cancels itself out, and you are left weighing Kendall versus $14 million this year and actually knowing who will be our quarterback next year.

Not saying this is an overwhelming success (and that I wouldn't rather have kept Kendall), but it ain't bad either.
It's bad. We basically switched out Cousins for an older version of himself, costing us a good corner and a 3rd round pick to do so.

(And no, the way this front office signs old free agents to this team, we aren't getting any comp pick back)

We could have had Cousins for 20-25 mil a year, instead of this situation, if we had signed him earlier like a smart front office would have.

And when we lose next season like we did this season, how long will Smith really last here? KC was ready to move on from Smith after a 10-6 season!

And I don't get why folks are OK with last season and say we were competitive. We were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by week 15. We were never competitive this season. Anybody think we are going to be better when we are just treading water with moves like this?

What is your alternative solution at QB for next year? If you don’t have a QB, your chances of any possibility of success are next to zero.

We didn't succeed with Cousins last season. We won't with Smith next season.

Fire Bruce Allen. Get Snyder out of the football side of operations altogether.

Get someone like Nick Caserio, Mark Dominik, Eric DeCosta, Rick Mueller, Dave Gettleman, or Chris Ballard. ANY of these guys would be a massive upgrade. Let them do what THEY want at QB.

If it were my choice, I would like them to draft a QB and build from there. Like the Eagles and Rams have. We are NOT contenders now.

Oh it just gets better, from Shefter:

Kansas City is expected to receive a second-round pick from Washington for Alex Smith and possibly more, per source. But a second-round pick was the price as of this morning, before trade between KC and Washington finalized.

I find it funny you can guarantee Smith won’t be successful because Cousins wasn’t. Especially before FA and the draft even begin.

This team needs a rebuild. It's sad to me.
