I am very interested to hear Jay Grudens take on this.

Kendall Fuller was great for us this year and it sucks that he's leaving, but you have to do what you have to do. The Cousins fiasco is beyond us now. Way easier to recover from losing a great slot corner than the disaster the Cousins train was heading towards.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith

Smith completed 67.5% of his passes this year for 4000 yards and 26 TDs with only 5 picks along with 355 rushing yards.

Cousins threw for damn near the exact same amount of yards for 27 touchdowns and 13 picks and about half the rushing yards.

Smith's passer rating was also about 10 points higher.

I get Cousins is younger, but this is a wash based on production for a lot less money.

We can attempt to replace Fuller way easier than the QB position.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith

You can now draft a CB at 13 or around 45 or around 72. We can find a new slot CB. He won't be as good, but we all agreed we needed a QB and obviously Skins didn't like where this was heading. Most important position is taken care of, we now have extra cap space, and we now won't have to draft a QB. I like the move.

I would imagine he is somewhat relieved. All along he has talked about how he didn't appreciate the year to year scenario with the QB position. Now he has his guy for the next 5 years. Guarantee he is sleeping like a baby tonight.

The narrative has been that they F'd up the Cousins thing a couple years ago. I'm not going to dispute that whatsoever, but who knows if a deal would have ever been done. Maybe Cousins never wanted to be here (ever), thus the year to year scenario that we have seen. Whatever...it is what it is. Now we have a QB, and freed up some cash to build a better team around him that we wouldn't have had if we tried to meet Cousins' demands. I like the guy, and wish him well, but the price tag was never going to be worth it and would have crippled this team for years.

I'm not super excited about losing Fuller, but we still have some good CBs...Norman, Dunbar, Holsey, Moreau. Maybe we add a FA if we don't resign Breeland, or maybe add more depth in the draft. He played great this year, rated high, might end up being super, etc., but it isn't like he is irreplaceable. He wasn't shutting dudes down weekly, and he made his share of mistakes.
