Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
i know it's a qb thread, but what college safeties are out there? Still want that to be our first round pick, assuming we end up in the 6 - 16 grouping.

Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
Brett Hundley says he is likely declaring for NFL draft
RG3 style? Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com STRENGTHS: Looks the part with a tall, well-built frame and has the arm to unleash passes all over the field. Easy throwing motion with a strong, accurate arm. Noel Mazzone's offense asks him to make aggressive downfield throws and his quarterback shows the courage to attempt these passes even with defenders in close proximity to his targets. Quick set-up and release, and possesses the velocity and touch to make any throw. Even more impressive than Hundley's elusiveness and acceleration, however, is his vision and poise while buying time in the pocket. Hundley feels pressure well and is willing to step up and re-set while keeping his passing options open, critical for long-term success in the NFL. Hundley has the physical traits to explode as a dual-threat passer in the NFL, and the mental toughness so critical for success at the next level. WEAKNESSES: Takes virtually every snap from the shotgun and typically relies upon pre-snap reads in a relatively simple offense. Scouts want to see him operate better from the pocket, especially under duress. Has a tendency to drop his eyes and look to run in the face of pressure, even when able to elude the initial defender. Good, but not great straight-line speed in the mold of elite dual-threat QBs. Hundley's ball placement is a work-in-progress. Like most young quarterbacks, he needs to develop his anticipation as a passer and show better rhythm with his weapons, but he has the qualities that can't be coached. COMPARES TO: Randall Cunningham, ex-Eagles: Hundley possesses a combination of size, athleticism, grace and arm strength reminiscent of the former Pro Bowler Cunningham.

Landon Collins is the top college safety, but his coverage ability is suspect. If you keep him around the line of scrimmage he is great, you have him cover you are in trouble.

Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
Who 's available that has experience playing in the pocket and on a pro style offense? We know running QB's won't work, there needs to be a balance.

Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
I pretty much have zero hope for this current front office to put together a rock solid draft to help dramatically improve this team for the long run. We'd really need 2-3 drafts like that in a row, I don't see it happening.

Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
I agree matt, honestly I don't believe in Dan any more and I def don't believe in the players we have. Griff will be gone which is a shame that we spent 3 years hoping he would live up to that crazy draft and he just wont.

Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
When did Snyder ever warrant one iota of our confidence? He is always looking for the quick fix. While I will continue to watch and root for the team on TV, I have made a pledge to myself to boycott spending any of my hard earned money on this team. No new merch, and definitely no more going to games anytime soon. The last game I attended was the 2013 opener against Philly, which in hindsight was a foreshadowing of how broken this franchise is.

Re: 2015 Draft - Quarterbacks
Wouldn't it be nice if they did what the cowboys did and invest in linemen early. That might improve this terrible team.

It’s an underwhelming draft for safeties tbh. Collins looks the top prospect right now, but like Earthquake says you could be in trouble if you’re overly reliant on him in coverage. That said, he has fantastic athleticism and can play back there, it’s just not as natural as allowing him to play closer to the LOS. It all depends on if Haslett goes I guess. He likes his safeties to be interchangeable after all, but in a league where true ball-hawks with the range and speed of say Earl Thomas are difference makers, it’d be preferable to maybe look for someone in that mould. One such player could be Gerod Holliman out of Louisville. 13 interceptions this year and he’s being compared to Ed Reed due to his off the charts instincts and closing speed. Some of his picks have to be seen to be believed as it’s just a pure feel for the game as opposed to a gamblers mentality. Real nice size for the position too at 6’1 & 206lbs. However, the big concern for me is that he looks an absolute liability when tackling. I’ve seen guys get a first down out of him when they have absolutely no right to, and from what I see it’s a combination of awful technique and dare I say it, reluctance of contact. Now, he did have a shoulder injury not so long ago, so maybe he’s mindful of that but you’d have to feel absolutely sure his shortcomings are correctable before taking him high. Again though, there is so much to like about his game. Personally speaking then, I like Derron Smith from Fresno. He’s got the measurements of Earl Thomas at 5’11 & 197 (should note btw I'm not expecting another version of him at all), and likes to hit. He also has 14 interceptions throughout his career (7 of which were last year I believe) and as much as our own Phillip Thomas put up similar numbers himself, Smith just looks more of a natural free safety. He’s been moved up closer to the LOS this season due to necessity, and from what I understand has been one of the few bright spots on their D, which is always a nice versatility and willingness to see coming out of college. His stats being down may also work in our favour as someone who could be has in the late 2nd or early 3rd, pre-combine of course. Didn’t John Keim say the other day though that he imagines they’ll look to FA for safety help? If so then I’m still on board for a hard-nosed interior lineman like Brandon Scherff (no way he stays at tackle IMO) to further bolster the offensive line. I also wouldn’t be against a trade down either if possible as for me, there are no JJ Watt type prospects who you could look back on with regret for missing out on. Plenty of very, very good talent, but nothing elite from what I can see, at least not where we’ll likely end up picking (Winston and Mariota will likely be gone tbh). A lot could change however. Oh, and as for Brett Hundley, if you thought RG3 has flaws going through progressions and staring down receivers, then this guy will take you to the fair!......and not in a good way!
