Make that in the booth, not the sidelines.

It looks like Jay is hiring the coaching staff that Hasslet wanted on defense...

Ray Horton or Jim Haslett as DC? No brainer go sign Horton ASAP as our DC, you know the skins will screw this one and keep hazmat. Horton started his coaching career with the Redskins working under Norv Turner as an assistant DB coach.

If he is going to be OLB coach, does this mean we're going to have another coach for the inside backers?

I think they are waiting to see what happens with Zimmer. Take Paul Guenther as DC and then put Hasslet in a ILB/ Assistant HC position.

It would be smart if the Redskins can steal Scott Turner from the Browns. Josh Gordon blossomed under Scott and he does statistical analysis on every opponent which could be a valuable.

how the heck can you make a position coach (that's under a coordinator) into a assistant head coach at the same time?

maybe a better question is why?

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

It is a shuffling of titles. Before he was fired, Bobby Turner was associate head coach/running backs coach.

Just because we don't like Hasslet doesn't mean that the Redskins don't. He is well respected at Redskins Park and has a well documented past relationship with Jay. Selling JH as the DC is a hard sale publicly and a change like this would make everyone happy.

Hasslet can help Jay transition into the Head coaching role. Also the changes are in name only because it stops the blocking of a move.

I suspect you might be right on the money with these moves. Haslett could be a mentor to JG in his early years as an NFL HC and Jay may want him in that role.

I have no problem with Haslett as ILB coach and Asst. HC but I have little confidence in him as DC.

I really doubt that Haslett will be retained as DC for two reasons. First, he's not very good at it. Second, it would be a very unpopular move among Redskins fans.

in blocking of the move you mean is there some union rules were the skins couldn't just demote Haslett?

London Fletcher.

I do like that Gruden and Allen seem to be supporting Haslett since they're keeping him, by getting him the help he wants.

Despite Haslett's run here so far under Shanahan, he has a good track record and is respected league wide. I heard on 980 last week that another team actually contacted the Skins about interviewing Haslett for their DC job right after the season ended. No mention of who.

On offense...

Cooley had huge praise for McVay and his age (27) is a little scary but Coach Gruden says he's handling the playcalling, so the leap from position coach to coordinator won't be too huge of a leap hopefully.

I think Gruden is handling this the right way. Obviously McVay is well respected, so promoting him but not placing the playcalling responsibility on him right away is the right way to do it. That way, Gruden is not having to "do it all" in terms of being an OC as well as the head coach. I also like that since the 'skins are keeping Haslett on as DC (even though I'm not thrilled about it) surround him with the coaches he wants. Hopefully they'll also get the players he wants/needs in the offseason, then we can truly see if Haslett fails as a DC, then we know it's all on him.

no, if he is an assistant head coach, then a team that wanted to hire Haslett (if there are any) would have to be offering him a HC position, or the Redskins could decline the other team an opportunity to interview Haslett.

^ correct and if they want to go after Guenther They could offer the DC job otherwise it's a lateral move.

Looks like Zimmer got the Job in Minn
Vikings hire Mike Zimmer as next head coach | ProFootballTalk

So G will be promoted to DC in Cincy.

Fletcher as a coach is an interesting idea. Especially since his comments about the coaching staff on twitter.

Pretty sure Fletcher said he isn't interested in coaching. He'll have plenty of TV opportunities.
