The average height and weight of the Bengals' starting OL is 6-5, 322. The average height and weight of the Redskins' starting OL is 6-4, 305(And that is because of Williams, who is 6-5, 325). I believe this means we will be seeing larger O-linemen soon. Yay! No more Polumbuses backing up as soon as the ball is snapped.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

The defensive coaching situation as rumored so far seems a little weird to me. Morris is an ex-head coach, he is definitely ready and qualified to be a DC. But if Haslett is staying he should stay as DC and Morris should stay as secondary coach if he's open to it. I think moving Haslett to "Assistant" Head Coach regardless if the money is more is still a demotion in terms of control/coaching of the team. There can be only one head coach.

To sum up if they want Morris to be DC then I think Haslett needs to be let go, if they are keeping Haslett, then he should be DC and Morris should remain DB coach.

I'm glad we got Gruden, I was for giving someone new a chance to be head coach.

I admit...I don't get what they're thinking on D. I have to believe we're not getting even remotely the right story. Unless it's just a plain money thing which would be a first for DS. Just seems very odd based on the reports. I suppose we'll know more in the coming weeks and it'll make better sense.

from what i understand haslett is going to be the linebackers coach and help with the defensive gameplan. morris would call the defense on gameday.

I'd be okay with that. haslett has to be a decent coach, but his results as a DC really do stand against him.

^ sdskinsfan2001 acts like demoting Haslett is a bad thing! His defense sucked, he should be fired. Making him the linebackers coach is his best option. Does anyone think he would get a job as a DC on any other team this year? Hell NO!

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

There may be a lot of reasons why Haslett would want to stay, even if he is no longer the DC. Yes, LB coach would be a demotion but. if he wants to stay in D.C. and he likes the people he would be working with, the public perception might not bother him that much. There may also be compelling personal reasons why he would like to stay in this area.

I see no reason why he wouldn't be a fine LB coach and contributor in defensive game planning.

The primary issue I have with him as DC is his play calling in crunch time.

to the bold part . . . a lot of what i have been reading is that Shanny has made the defensive calls in crunch time. Like the cover 0 blitz against the Cowboys that bit the Skins in the ass . . .

I'd really like to know which man made that call. I suppose it's possible that Haslett is not quite as bad as Shanny has made him look at times.

But even if Shanny was the source of some egregious defensive play calls, I still think we should hire a DC who is better than Haslett.
