I personally would be excited to have 21 and 31 safety positions for the Redskins. We would definetly have the most feared safety combo in the NFL.

Re: Are 21 and 31 over-rated?

Yeah, as far as overrating goes (and I know you're not comparing them...) but I think Roy is a little more overrated. Taylor deserved a Pro-bowl last year and your boy went with worse stats...

Taylor scored 2 TDs in back-to back do or die games agianst the eagles and the bucs that let us travel as far as we did in the post-season last year.... And he gets little recognition anywhere, except for the butt of conduct jokes or on Jacked-Up....

Williams separates Emmit Smiths shoulder and all of a sudden he's a god to dallas fans?

If Riggo was still playing and played for the 9ers and Taylor broke his arm, I'd personally kick taylor in the nuts...

You are out of your mind. First of all, Roy basically signed a contract for life with the boys. Second, we tried bringing Cowboys in to right the ship, it was called the Norv Turner era.

That is a ridiculous idea.

roy williams is definitely overrated. he gets burned soooo much. as for sean taylor, he has gotten worse from his rookie year, and last year i think. he is really struggling this year in coverage

wow, I don't know where to start
1. Fuck the Cowboys
2. WAR TONY STEWART
3. Sean Taylor never sacrifices a play for a big hit, he makes the play with the big hit
4. The reason Taylor does not get the credit he deserves is due exclusively to thuggery i.e. assault, spitting, friendly fire
5. I have watched recievers and backs time and again make cuts specifically to avoid Taylor, all offenses account for him. In the words of Brandon Lloyd, "I'm glad that guy's on my team"

21 = BONEBREAKER (not overrated)
31 = HORSECOLLARS (overrated)

Re: Are 21 and 31 over-rated?

Taylor may not make many plays in coverage, but how many times a game do you see recievers not make catches because he is barrelling towards them, and he may not pick the ball much, but how often do you see him strip the ball. He is a playmaker and a threat for any reciever when he is free to go up and make a hit on them, but when he doesn't have help from his corners he is taken out of his element and forced to play back in coverage, which he does with some success, but what we want to see from him are those big hits. It makes any team player think twice before catching a ball when his career may be on the line.

Re: Are 21 and 31 over-rated?

Let's put it this way. If Taylor had the same things said about him as Williams does now, yes, I'd say Taylor was over-rated. He has a reputation as a hard hitter and a playmaker. There's nothing over-rated about that. Williams reputation as not being able to cover is also catching up to him, so he's not as over-rated as he once used to be.

Sean Taylor is still making plays every game. He's stripped the ball what three times this year?

He's not superman and can't compensate for our lack of CB/Saftey depth, but he's an effin manimal.

It's ok to be a skeptic, but lets not lose our minds here folks.

Re: Are 21 and 31 over-rated?

Sean Taylor is having a hell of a year this year. It's getting lost in all the bad secondary comments, but any time hes around the ball, we get a play. In that vain, Roy Williams is doing the same for Dallas this year. Neither are great cover safeties, and Roy is espicially horrid.

Re: Are 21 and 31 over-rated?

Safety in the NFL is a weird position. Just last year Ed Reed was supposed to be the second coming of Ronnie Lott, this year???

Everyone has been waiting for Williams to pay more attention to coverage and he seemed to be for the first few games - Two picks - but the TD vs Philly where the ball hung for hours and he had a good read on it was pretty bad.

That said he was providing help on that play and the FS was the true culprit.

I watched the Redskins play Dallas and the Vikings.
I watched some of the Jags game and much of the Texans game.

21 seems to be getting hesitant. In the early games he came in and laid the wood down.
He hit TO over and over.

Now he seems hesitant. Penaties? Tired from covering 2/3rds of the field?

That might not be a stretch because I am sure he got alot of shit from GW with that penalty agaisnt the Viks. And since he has to cover more of the field, I am sure he is getting tired. I am sure people have mentioned it before, but having a good saftey next to you, and good corners will always make you look better as a safety, because then you have less responsibility, and you can focus on that.

I believe any game where the opposing running back is doing well puts extra pressure on the safeties to support the run at the expense of potential big plays off play action. The Giants game was a case in point -Tiki was getting 6-7 yards on most first down carries. Against Dallas and the Jags, I felt Taylor played outstanding, laying heavy wood against those venturing across the middle. He had one bad play taking a horrible angle on the Maurice Jones-Drew TD vs the Jags, but he had 4 or 5 hits in both games that sent a strong message to the opposing receivers. I maintain that if our front 7, and in particular the D-line, was even above average, ST would be the best safety in football. Even with his mistakes in coverage this season, he makes 2-3 plays per game that leave you shaking your head at his freakish skill for such a large safety.

The reality is, both are giving up plays. I mean against the Gimps, the two deep passes should have been intercepted for the length of time it stayed up in the air. Later that Sunday, Williams should have intercepted the ball when I think Brown scored a TD.
I'll say that there just in a bad secondarys........

How is Vick overrated?....
