Be careful, mredskins may call you names for saying this.

Re: Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

I know we are kinda stuck with Portis's contract but honestly I see him as being done. Always injured. I know he's tough I'm not saying that. I just think he's on the decline. If we don't have a CAP next yr we would be better off paying him off and moving on. He's no longer the speedy back he was right out of college and now he's tried to get down to that weight and is not the hard pounder he used to be.

It's pretty bad when Betts came in and the team decided to simply pound the ball and Betts got yrds. Betts atleast ran over the safties, and LB's a few times.

Hopefully next yr we cut bait with all of them and bring in new young blood.

Hopefully by next year we HAVE an offensive line. Samuels is pretty much gone. Thomas is up there in age and every season seems to take a season ending injury. Heyer stinks as does Rabach. Who do we have left? Dockery. Well. I guess that's something to build off of.

I'd rather have J. Norwood and a larger back (L. Johnson or L. White) to run by commitee, if we go the free agent route. Although we need a young burner, I don't see how we could justify drafting one (with our needs at OL and QB) except for finding a gem in the mid to late rounds.

Eh. Dockery is probably the worst active lineman we have. The only thing that impresses me about him is that he's not underperforming his contract, because he's getting like $2.5 million a year. And Will Montgomery makes him look like a great pass protector, so that's something.

You can build an OL with a Derrick Dockery type at left guard, but you have to do so pretty much willing to accept that he will be the 5th best lineman. He's proved durable, so we could do worse (i.e. everyone else we were planning to start this year).

If we were to truly rebuild the OL, Dockery would have to go as well. At this point, half-assing it might not be such a bad idea. We need new tackles, but until we figure something out, it's hard to evaluate what we have on offense.

Luckily, we have nothing else on offense. So there's not really any evaluation errors we have to worry about.

Re: Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

You're talking about Ditka and the Saints entire draft plus Ricky Williams!! I agree with the poster who said there's not a lot happening with a 33 yr. old running back, plus the last guy we brought here from Miami wanted to go back.

Until we get an O-line, king-kong would be hard pressed to gain yards, I would pass until that is no longer an issue.

Ricky has already stated that he intends to retire after his contract is up in Miami anyway.

Anyone who actively purues a 30-something tailback in free agency needs to rethink thier professional callings.
That's what I had to say.

Only if they paid him in weed and gave him a bong as a bonus.

Re: Redskins need to sign Ricky Williams.

Put aside the fact that this thread should have ended on page 2 when it was pointed out that Ricky signed an extension through 2010 with Miami. Put aside the production that he has had in Miami. The fact is that RW is an aging back who compliments a younger back behind a good offensive line. In Washington, he'd be an aging back complimenting an aging back behind a poor offensive line. Seriously? Who's smoking pot now? Next will be another "Who can we sign for the vet min?" thread. Rebuild the offensive line before you start talking about who to put behind it.
