You can see it in his play, his hearts not in football anymore. He wants to be in Hollywood. Maybe we could work a trade with Oakland for a couple of draft picks....LOL.
This is purely hypothetical, but I would trade Taylor man up for Robert Gallery in a heartbeat. Gallery may be a bust to date, but at least he's younger and a big body that would give our fast fading O-line more depth.

^^ gallery is getting some serious coin right now, it would have to be a sign and trade deal to lower his cap hit but i dont see him taking less money when hes got a kings ransom in his back pocket.

I honestly don't think there's a wrong move here. But that's because I'm a glass half-full kind of guy. If you're more pessimistic by nature, then maybe there's no right move.

He's going to be expensive to keep, and we're in no way financially committed to him. Having him back next year will definitely help our four man pass rush. But if Blache is just going to do the same blitz packages he's doing now next year, there's no point in having Jason Taylor.

If Cerrato's got what it takes to be a good GM, he's already looking at the 2nd rounder that we traded for him as a sunk cost. Look, we all make mistakes, and an under the gun overbuy like Taylor is excusable. But you have to call the joint chiefs together, decide if Jason Taylor is worth $8 million for next season, and if he's not then you have to let him go.

Problem is though that the Raiders, like us, need more players like Gallery and less players like Jason Taylor. They do the whole undersized defensive lineman thing better than the rest of the NFL.

When you take an offensive lineman at No. 2 overall, you expect him to be a tackle. But Gallery was a guard in the making, and Davis meddled in Turner's affairs, forcing Gallery to play tackle where he was totally overmatched.

As a Guard though, he's a potential Kendall replacement, should we want to go that route. He's almost exactly like Kendall, but far, far younger.

I dont think the raiders do anything better then any team. Oakland is where players go to die.

However, it would be foolish to think in one year's time that he's lost everything. I think alot of it has to do w/ the fact that:

1. He had his leg bent in a direction that it shouldn't go. There was about a 99.9% chance he'd be done for the year imo.

2. He's had surgery on his calf how many times this year? You can't tell me that doesn't make a difference.

3. He's a HOF DE and former MVP. He knows how to play.

I liked the deal when we did it. So, i'm not going to 2nd guess now. We had some bad luck. Maybe he'll be healthy next year.
Good post. A lot of people were really happy with this deal when we did it, which is fine. But a lot of people who supported the deal have since turned on Taylor and Cerrato and that isn't fair. I admire your honesty.

They defend the pass better than we do, and they have the best special teams units in the league. Those are two of our biggest weaknesses.

If you combined the best of the Redskins and Raiders...you'd still be a right tackle and a wide receiver short of a super bowl contender.

sometimes it takes a year or two for a player to learn the system, and to learn how to play with different teammates. look at Joey Porter, he had a terrible year last year, now he's on the verge of being defensive mvp.

JT hasnt been healthy all year. I think they should keep him thru the end of his contract next year (hopefully be be healthy) and they send him on his way.

Taylor was there through like ten systems. Also Porter is not technically his replacement. Taylor was a 3-4 linebacker 2 seasons ago, last season he was a 4-3 end under Cameron and the current regime has returned to the 3-4.

You are exactly right. Taylor is past his prime, he is not the the defensive MVP he once was. I can not believe we gave up a 2nd round pick for him. I was against getting him for a 2nd round pick then and nothing has happened to change my opinion. We overpaid for him.

That is a poor argument. DT has two main jobs to contain the outside and to rush the passer. Yes teams have them do different things but the job itself is the same. If he was doing better then below average that argument might hold but he is not even doing that. Porter is a LB and has alot of other duties that take time to learn.

I'm sorry but there's no way anyone could have predicted what happened to JT this season. Yes, his signing fitted the mold of typical big free agents signing that this team has made in the past. However, when we signed JT, it made sense.

Honestly, I've always thought that the problem in the d-line came from the Defensive Tackles and not the rushers. I hope the team can go after someone like Haynesworth in the offseason. Our interior DTs need to be able to push the offensive line and disrupt the opponents pass or run.
