JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
I Can't Stop Blogging ... Somebody Give Me a Raise (Dock, Brunell and Salary Cap Stuff) - Redskins Insider
Alright peeps, got some cap info for you (I don't feel so bad for letting DCsween, Haiku and the boys buy me some shots the other night, 'cause, frankly, I'm earning in now y'all). I know I wrote earlier that my gut on Dock was they re-sign him. Well, after making a bunch of calls and hearing where this market really could be going (Steinbach getting $16 to sign!!) it seems like Dock could blow past what Jansen got a few weeks back. I hear $12 million guaranteed might be the number to keep Dock, and given all the Skins already have tied up in their offensive line, how crazy this market is going, and their pressing needs on D, I could see them letting him go. Again, this is all in flux and one phone call from The Owner around 11:55 could get it done, but this seems like a bizarro world market, devoid of immense talent but with cap room spilling over and only a few quality dudes to spend it on. I have a bunch of other Dock-related stuff but I ain't puttin' it all out here now. A) I get the feeling sometimes that I am doing my competition's work for them, and b) gots to give you guys a reason to pony up your 35 cents every morning. On to the cap, my most beloved main man on all salary-cap issues (you know who you are) tells me the Skins as of today are roughly $6 million under the cap, give or take a few hundy-thou, after yesterday's moves (cutting Fauria and doing a new deal with Brunell). Also, I got some hard and fast numbers on Brunell. he went from a $6.7 cap hit to $3.5. He gets about $1.1 in base salary, a $500,000 roster bonus in June and, throw in the old proration from the original signing bonus and, VIOLA (oops I did it again), you get the new cap hit. So, they're 6 under now. Cutting Hall gives them another $1.5. I hear they may not do anything right away on Patten (who would only save $750,000), although I still stick to my original Crystal Ball prediction that he gets let go this offseason. Cuttin Wynn would add another $2.5 in cap space if needed. So they have some wiggle room. Oh yeah, and one other thing, this Vilma/Portis crap has got to stop. Joe Gibbs love CP. Loves him. Heck, I'll write it again. Loves him. Does not want to think about him not being on the roster. Can't imagine it. They are not shopping him or trying to move him in any way. Also, spoke to someone very close to Vilma today to try to end that nonsense once and for all. If Vilma is being shopped no one has told him. If the Jets want to move him, no one has told him. There has been no contact from any outside teams. No teams have been granted contact to speak to him. Could he eventually be traded in his NFL career? Sure. Wayne (bleeping) Gretzky was dealt, twice (right, the St. Louis deal was a trade and not FA, right?). Anyway, it's pretty much impossible to trade a guy in the NFL without him being in on it, because of the cap ramifications and the new contract they usually need from the new team and all of that. And Vilma has not heard a thing. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
But what OTHER team is going to pay that kind of cheddar to keep him?
|
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
At least he put to bed the silly Portis for Vilma rumors
|
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
True enough.
Still though, I don't see how some OTHER team is going to break the bank on Dockery for that kind of money. Sure, WE might not do it, but who else is? I mean DAMN. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Yeah I am glad those are gone. Just because Betts does well for a bit, everyone forgets how good CP actually is. Sometimes I really question our own fans.
But what OTHER team is going to pay that kind of cheddar to keep him?
Exactly. I think the Skins are going to see what the market is for Dock first, then offer something close hoping he wants to be Redskin. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
If Dock isn't signed...:censored: me!
I wonder if there is any chance Thomas will be available at the #6 spot? Resign Wade? Panic? |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
I am not much of a cap expert, but couldnt we give him one of those low salary high bonus deals?
Or that will hurt the cap too. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
But what OTHER team is going to pay that kind of cheddar to keep him?
Thats what I'm saying! I don't think his value is high enough to command that much money. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
If someone offers him the reported twelve million, they are officially crazier than Danny.
If someone offers him 9-10 mil, I say we match it and see where his loyalties lie. |

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
If he wants that kind of money then they are going to have to let him shop and hope to resign him after he realizes his market value isn't as great as he or his agent believes.

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Well that's fine to say he wants too much. What are the f***ing options though otherwise?

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
It sounds like we are talking Royalty with those numbers.
|
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
I'd have to say the kind of reported cash he's looking to get, not even Danny Boy's comin off that kind of coin.....and don't blame him! I think the DOCK is on his way out the door.

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
I wish I knew what was going on with the Dockery negotiations. I have heard however, from a pretty reliable source, that Dock’s agent’s initial proposal to the Redskins was a $17 million signing bonus. Yes, $17 million.
Now clearly (I think) this was just a starting point for further bargaining. But it gives you an idea of Dock and his agent’s (Todd France) ultimate asking price based on their starting point. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
No way Dock is getting a 17 mil bonus.
DB Clements and OLB Thomas are going to get 17-19 mil bonus. OG Dielman and Steinbach will get between 12 - 17 mil bonus. OL Davis has been saying he has a 12 mill signing bonus offer. Dockery will get between 10 - 12 mil to sign. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Does Dock even want to be here? It almost just sounds like the Chump story where we tried to resign him and come to find out he looked for greener pastures.
|
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
THis is the nature of this years market--it's not that Dock is objectively worth all that cheddar, but teams have lots of cheddar to spread round this year. It's a sellers market. My guess is that he's as good as gone. We need a LG. But that's better than not having a D...

I have to agree that's about right, DOCKS out of his mind lookin for 17 mil Bonus cash, he's in the 10-12 range max, in my opinion. However, in this market you just never know? Some team out there might be desperate enough to pay him an OUTRAGEOUS signing bonus.....way more than what he's worth! |

I know this is barely hearsay, but I just read this on a Cowboys board. Hey guys, I live in DC and had the fortune of meeting Dockery and his wife at a Washington Wizards game. He said he is from the Dallas area. He said he would like to stay in Washington and was hoping he could get something done (he likes this area. But I told him that he needs to be a cowboy!) He laughed and said we will see what happens .With the FA market shaping up like it is, I would not be surprised if he ends up with our boys. Nice guy though. He would fit well in Big D. Who knows if this is true or not. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Dock, like most players, is simply going to go to the highest bidder. If Somalia had a football team that was willing to pay him a $20M signing bonus, he'd be on his way to Mogadishu before night's end. So, I fully expect to lose him and, to be honest, I'm not going to be totally pissed about it.

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
I would rather sign Wade and another starting quality guard than spend that on Dock. Those figures are crazy...

Who is Wade? A guy who sat on the bench for us last year? Also what is are our other options at LG, who else is out there and available and is not going to cost ridiculous money? |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
if dock wants that i agree with you. let him go if he wants 17 mil, that is upsurd for one god damn lineman. hes good man and i love him but thats too much money with the others guys out there on the market. hope we sign hime for a good fair price.

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Who would pay such a ridiculous bonus to Dockery? Let's rewind the tape for a moment.
Lavernaeus Coles was looking for an $8M signing bonus but Danny Boy wanted to "lock him down" for the Skins and paid $10M. More than a few folks here thought that showed Danny Boy's genius in getting the deal he wanted done immediately and with no one else having a chance to make a counter-offer. When Brandon Lloyd came here via trade WITH AN EXISTING CONTRACT, Danny Boy and his front office minions decided to tear up that EXISTING CONTRACT and pay him $10M as a signing bonus for a whole new deal. How's that working out? Those are just two examples of paying far more than necessary to "make a splash"; there are others... Let's see...who might pay a ridiculous sum in terms of a signing bonus??? Dallas and Miami are "in the mix" for acquiring Dockery. Do not be shocked if the Rams get involved too. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
ok.... is he any good? Do we have any other prospects out there?
|

He came to us after an injury year and came from a bad line. He proceeded to basically play as well as any lineman played for us all year in that one game. I think Wade at $2 million is a way better value than Dock at $4 million (and growing as the seasons go on) for a guard. I know it's a crazy market but we got needs and Wade can fill at RG sufficiently enough for me. If Dock can't get in at a reasonable price than hasta baby. |

Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Alright FLPRG I'll take your word for it and I know we have other needs. I really would like to see some good D help. What about Nick Harper the CB out of Indy? Any one heard what he might be asking for?

My guess is that all of the CB's are going to get some coin. I think Smoot could be viewed as a troublemaker and damaged goods so we may have a shot at him at a reasonable price. That perception of him also allowed him to slip to us in the second round. Don't get me wrong, he isn't a shutdown corner by any stretch but signing him could prevent a slide similar to the one that we faced when Springs groin went out... |

Dock is not even in the top 5 free agents for O-line. |
Re: JLC: Hope fading for Dockery?
Well they're the only ones who have Gandy and Carlisle rated like that. Hell they have Gandy over Dielman which seems like a serious stretch.
