No big surprise, seems like every preseason they were the trendy pick and each year they tanked.

why? he has had 3 years to put togeather a decent team and he was made a, what, 3-13 team. my guess is that he gets reunited with randy moss in oakland

i think he's a good coach. three years isn't that long, gibbs has been back three years , i'm not ready to get rid of him.

Re: Arizona Cards Fire Dennis Green

Three years is starting to be the time clock in the NFL. Green had a plethora of talent to work with in Arizona and he couldn't get it done.

One of the most explosives offenses in the NFL, and that was before they got Edge and Leinert. Bert Berry is a top defensive lineman, and they have a hard hitting Pro-Bowl saftey in Adrian Wilson. Some really good young talent on this squad.

I think they go after Peter Carroll or Norm Chow, that's my guess.

the skins have a "plethora" of talent and it's been 3 years for gibbs. do you want to fire joe gibbs?

He was thought to be one in the running to replace Spurrier here had Gibbs not decided to return. Had he come here, I guess we would be looking for a new coach again. The time to produce in the NFL is limited......

(NFL) "Not For Long" if you don't win.

Wolf, Gibbs record speaks for itself. In fact, it's not too much better than Denny Green's. If Gibbs were someone else, he would most definitely be on the hot seat this year, no question about it. You can slice the old, I love Gibbs and his three rings, any way you like, but he's not getting it done.

If you like, you can go to my profile and read plenty comments and threads I've posted on the subject.

Add Jim Mora to the list:

Re: Arizona Cards Fire Dennis Green

While Gibbs and Green may have both ended up in similar places after three years, Gibbs did make the playoffs in his second year. Green didn't come close. So directly comparing them after three years isn't quite fair.

Green has made zero progress. Gibbs showed progress and then tanked it. Plus the fact that Gibbs has a hall of fame reputation kind of matters a little bit.

Green deserved it, Gibbs doesn't.

BUT... I don't think you fire a coach just because he deserves it. That's the wrong reason. You only fire them if you feel that bringing in a new coach will make your team better. If Green has lost the locker room, then making a change might make sense. But if he still had the locker room, it comes down to can you find a better coach? That's always the hard part.

I can deal with that, but I never inserted Gibbs into the conversation. I simply responded and made a correlation of the records.

The Skins made the playoffs, and there are a lot of other different circumstances in this. Like all the injuries the SKins had, and the fact that Gibbs is a proven commodity and a Washington hero.
Green was nothing to Arizona but someone that was supposed to bring glory to the team and that didn't happen.

ps- after this dismal performance, firing Gibbs has crossed my mind, but I want to give him 1 more year. His first year we expected a poor showing. Last year we overacheived, gotta give Gibbs credit. This year we underachieved, so he deserves 1 more year.

oops accidentally hit send reply.

I wanted to say:
Green went 6-10, 5-10, 5-10...had Gibbs done that, then yes, he would have been fired too.

How is it that we just somehow seem to know when certain coaches are hired in certain places, they're going to get fired?........"Shortly......

Well, 95% get fired, so it's not exactly a long shot there.
But knowing one will not succeed is not rocket science. Arizona has a losing mentality, probably always will. Green was not set up for success there.

Re: Arizona Cards Fire Dennis Green

I actually see a brighter future for the Cards. Leinart looks like he will become a decent QB, they have the best talent at WR, Edge has a couple more years, a brand new stadium, Soome of their defensive players look very sharp. They need an O-line coach, someone that can put together a solid group and get them all on the same page. Arizona with an o-line would be a dangerous opponent.

It's kind of like that Seinfeld where you know a restaurant is going to go out of business based on its location. "Very bad man!" Arizona and Detroit are kind of the NFL's equivalent of that.

while green has struggled with the cards the last 3 years, his track record is not dismal. i think he should have been given, at least, one more year for the fact that his rookie qb now has a couple of games under his belt and his offense is pretty young at the skill positions. some better o-lineman is what they lack. i just think it's funny how some say it's a good fireing but say gibbs should not be fired because 15-20 years ago he won 3 superbowls.

don't get me wrong, i do not want or think gibbs should be fired. i just think green should be given a little more time.
