I remember the same stuff was said about Dan Marino when he came out. He partied too much, he used drugs and so on. What college kid hasn't smoked a little weed? I'd focus more on what the guy did on the field and what his teammates and coaches think of the him.
Well, this is only 2nd hand knowledge I have, but from what I had heard it wasn't smoking some weed at a party. These were serious hard drugs that he allegedly used before and after games.

But that's just rumor so who know really. He's struck me as much smarter than I had thought. If we still had say Gibbs and Saunders here I'd be tempted to take a chance on him. But under this offense, not so much
Jason Campbell was a 2-3 round grade talent. Gibbs was a fool to trade up into the first round to pick him up. He had 2 RBs while at Auburn that both went in the top 5 of that draft. He had ONE good year while at Auburn, and his other years were absolutely crap to the point where he was benched twice.

In fact, the same flaws that were scouted on JC were the same flaws he displayed here in DC. I'll run them down for you.

Cliffnotes: JC should have never been drafted by us to start with. Especially in the first round expecting him to be NFL starting potential.
I agree with everything in your post except "Gibbs was a fool". There are no circumstances that would ever make that an accurate statement.

If you listen to most scouting reports out there this year it appears that a lot of the QB's in this draft are really 2nd round talent that may get pushed up into the 1st round because of QB needy teams.

Rumors say Mallett liked the nose candy, much different problem than smoking a little weed.

I'd take Mallet over Locker, Gabbert, Newton, or Dalton.

He definitely has the arm, obviously he doesn't have the legs or a pocket presence as to how to handle pressure. He could be the next Dan Marino or he could be the next Ryan Leaf, obviously two different extremes there, but I wouldn't be surprised in I don't know 3 years or so, that we look back at this draft and say why didn't we draft Mallet?

I'm starting to become a Mallett guy the closer we get to the draft. Look at his numbers at ARKANSAS, remember this was against teams like ALA, UF, LSU and AU.

I dunno, I have a hard time taking QB analysis seriously from a guy who led the Cult of Colt ...

I read an article where Mallett was compared more to Drew Bledsoe than Dan Marino. He has a hell of an arm and a high release, but Marino, even though stiff, could escape pressure at least better than Bledsoe. With the right line this guy could be awesome.....without it...???????

I always thought if the Shanahan's liked him it would be because he compared well to Schaub (tall immobile passer) but Schaub is more accurate while lacking the cannon of Mallet. So if anything I buy the Bledsoe comparison.

Also I agree about him absolutely needing a line. In the NFL there's 3 forms of protection. First is obviously the ability of the 5 offensive lineman to pass protect as well as run block to help keep the defense honest and allow play action to be more effective. After that you have the skilled positions ability to block, so that means Tight Ends, running backs, and occasionally receivers.

The third form of protection seems to be more and more vital in todays NFL and thats the ability of a QB to protect himself, either through mobility (Rodgers, Vick, Ben) or a lightning quick release (Manning). Obviously the mobility aspect is more practical and is becoming more and more a part of the game. Personally I want a QB that is able to move around and of all the QB's this year Mallet is easily the worst when it comes to moving around the pocket. Forget gaining yards, this guy is a statue.

DAMNIT !!!! I was hoping it was just weed, but coke......man that's a bit much. I mess with him though, but coke ? Hopefully he's off it for good, I like the kid and hopefully for his sake he's done with it. Whether it's with the Skins or not.

Most college kids experiment with drugs so I really would not hold this stuff against him.
