10 Greatest Redskins You Saw Play
With 10 names being added to the Redskins Greatest list, who are the 10 greatest Redskins you ever saw play?
So remember, these are only players that you actually saw playing while they were active NFL players (live or on tv) So, Mooby you can't pick Sammy Baugh. And, even though I probably saw him, I was too young to remember Ken Houston so I can't pick him. Here's my 10: John Riggins Art Monk Darrell Green Jim Lachey Tony Banks Clinton Portis Russ Grimm Ken Harvey Dave Butz Gary Clark

Re: 10 Greatest Redskins You Saw Play
I couldn't really think of a 10th....so I threw in John Riggins
Seriously though, narrowing it down to 10 was actually a bit harder than I expected

Re: 10 Greatest Redskins You Saw Play
The more I think about it, the more I want Charles Mann and Dexter Manley on my list. I would place them over Harvey and Banks for sure.

Damnit, how'd you know I was going to pick Sammy Baugh? My list is going to be pretty weak now.

Re: 10 Greatest Redskins You Saw Play
Getting down to 10 was tough. Especially for us ancient guys. You really have 3 time frames to choose from - the early Allen era, the Gibbs era and the Snyder era. I could (and did) get 10 from each easily. It's hard to compare in some ways. Ken Houston and Sean Taylor? Kilmer was one of my favorites - still remember seeing him play with blood all over his face and throwing wobbly ducks to C. Taylor. Then the modern era guys - lots of great players Samuels, Taylor, Portis, Fletcher ... Here then is my stab at it. B/c I have so many players to choose from, I added an additional restriction in that they had to be players I saw live (went to my first game in 73 so Jurgenson and Huff are off the list):
Charley Taylor Ken Houston Chris Hanburger J. Riggins R. Grimm J. Jacoby Art Monk S. Taylor Chris Samuels Darrell Green

Re: 10 Greatest Redskins You Saw Play
Started following the Skins in 1979 (age 10)
Joe Theismann Charlie Brown John Riggins Dave Butz (and his scratched up helmet) Clinton Portis (who helped me win my first Fantasy Football Championship in 2005) Mark Rypien Earnest Byner Stephen Davis Darrell Green Art Monk OK one quick story..Went with the family to see the Skins in St. Louis when the Cardinals played there for a December game in 1986 I think. Stayed in the same hotel as the Skins. Watched them arrive and come into the hotel that afternoon as a 16-17 year old kid. I thought they were all enormous. Went downstairs that night to play video games in the game room, and Darrell Green and Art Monk both came up one on either side of me and watched me play Mrs. Pacman or something for about a minute or two! Great thrill as a teen age kid to look back now and think that these tow Hall of Famers were watching me play a video game the night before their game. Oh they won the next day...it was freezing! |
