Washingto Post - Top Secret America

Conspiracy Theorists Unite!

Top Secret America | washingtonpost.com

Seriously, anyone who can read this and not shake their heads at some aspect of it is an amazing person.

At one point, one of the "Super Users" -those few who know "all" the details, stopped his intake briefing because there was no way he could remember it all.
Quote:
The other recounted that for his initial briefing, he was escorted into a tiny, dark room, seated at a small table and told he couldn't take notes. Program after program began flashing on a screen, he said, until he yelled ''Stop!" in frustration.

Re: Washingto Post - Top Secret America

I would hesitate to cast this upon conspiracy theorists. For all that we know about govt operations there's a great deal that we also do not know and they intend to keep it that way for better or worse. I heard about the article this morning and will read it shortly.

I mean it doesn't scream watch out for big brother or this or that but at the same time anybody from this area knows people with TS and has heard things that maybe they shouldn't have. The permeation into mainstream society from this vast amount of contracted offerings is pretty well evident. It's an issue with national security as well as covering up things that have happened I'm sure.

I'm not interested in conspiracy theories, only the facts of the conspiracies.

Way beyond shaking your head and into the realm of pure anger. Price we pay the illusion of safety and people are apparently willing to pay it. We're the best...raw raw...go America...let's get them terrorist.

It's amazing how we have effectively replaced Communism and the red scare with terrorism.

My brother-in-law has one of those made up jobs sense 9/11. He rides around in a boat without any weapons and is suppose to be defending our navy ships from a water attack. I just hope for his sake we never have an attack because he will be the first to get blown out of the water. Now I'll have to say sense 9/11 the Coast Guard has added plenty of fire power to their boats but not sure what good it does.

Re: Washingto Post - Top Secret America

I feel like the article boils down to this one little bit of knowledge. We have invested so much money and resources into national security that it's become so huge that there is nobody that can oversee it, and as a result a lot of time/money/resources are being wasted from multiple agencies and programs that are basically covering the same thing.

I wish it was as simple as El Presidente' just creating one office that has control over all national intelligence and making sure that that office can control the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc. etc. and can make sure that multiple resources aren't being wasted covering one angle. We need to be organized to be effective at national security, and I feel like this article creates a clear picture that national security has become so disorganized that it's hard to tell whether it's doing a good job or not. And while my proposal above is simplistic in design, there are probably too many flaws to be found that would ever prevent it from happening.

You could say that's what the office of the ODNI was made for, to control the flow of info and to organize everything so everybody was handling a different aspect and so there aren't 50,000 reports that cover the same thing. But the article makes it pretty clear that all the agencies have their own interests, some of which are above what the ODNI has access to.

When I read parts of that story about how some agency re-classified certain information so that the ODNI can't have access to it, or how it changed its' budget so the ODNI can't have access to that either, it just screams ineffectiveness on the behalf of the national government to organize how national security is handled.
