Why do I suggest this?
If they weren't sure, and wanted to hedge their bets, they keep a cheap developmental piece in Howell. They traded him and signed a typical lame backup.
What about a trade up?
It is still possible, but if they weren't Rick solid on #2, no way they would have made those moves. If they are all chips in in #2, why would they trade Anything to go to #1, when we need 2 Tackles? Makes no sense.
For such a strategy as conservative with all the free agents signings, the Quarterback move was all chips in on #2. This is a high confidence move
An outrageous possibility would be they already have a vet trade tagged in writing for our QB starter, but that is hard to fathom.
So the good news here is, the new FO has done extensive homework and has no doubts who their next QB is, anything they say to the contrary is BS.
I am glad, but a bit scared
My dick gets rick solid every time I talk about Howell.

Sorry, couldn't let that autocorrect slide!

Things are even simpler than that.
Howell is the ex girlfriend that mom loved.
We will have a new love interest next month and don't need mom screwing up thanksgiving by comparing the ex to the new GF. Relationship is over.

Shular/Frerotte
RG3/Cousins

We can get a new side piece in the draft to go along with our top pick.

This is all well and good until some other team trades up to number one and picks the quarterback they are Rick solid on.

I assume they're happy with at least 2 players, so it doesn't matter what happens at 1.

It's always gonna be unnerving as fans when your #2 pick has to ball out or you'll be fielding...... Marietta. Not enough return for Sam who I'd put out there over MM every day and twice on Sundays.

I don't think the hype is real ok these top 3 qbs, either, like most other years, qbs over drafted and over hyped.

Is what it is, hope for the best.

Re: Sam Howell Traded

After 17 games Sam got us to the #2 pick.

I wouldn’t be scared.

Maybe, but all 3 of them are so different from each other. It doesn't make a ton of sense that they would just be happy to settle for whoever is there. It's possible, but I think I would rather them be locked in on one guy because he fits what they want to do.

Wish the draft was this weekend...

In my opinion EB & RR got us to the # 2 pick.

The compensation we received for SH was pretty decent though. I don't hate the trade.

Ron, EB, Sam, they all played a role.

I get that circumstance weren’t ideal for Sam, but they rarely are and you have to make do with what you’ve got. He took way too many sacks and threw too many picks, just too many negative plays. I like him and think he can play a little but he’s probably best suited as a backup and spot starter. Too many limitations in his game that get exposed over 17 games. I thought the trade compensation was more than fair.

This has been a consistent issue with him, even before the NFL. The O-line wasn't great, and the play calling was even worse, but you would think if there was ever a season he could shake the propensity to hold onto the ball too long, it would have been last season.
