Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Football was fun again. That's how I would summarize our 1st game. Wasn't watching out of habit and hoping magically it went well. It was just an enjoyable experience. J.D. is gonna be nice.

He just doesn't look like a rookie. He looks poised and on time. He's gonna be a real one.

He also ran right into defenders. That's the biggest worry in his game and the hardest to correct.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Since we never did start a game thread about the Miami game, I'd like to provide a few of my observations from that competition. Feel free to jump in and disabuse me of my misconceptions.
1. Jeff Driskel - I was really impressed by his play vs. the Jets and the Dolphins. I'm hoping we keep 3 Qb's and he's one of them. 2. I thought the OL play in the 1st half was pretty darn good. We may have just enough decent starters and backups to get by this season. 3. Tyler Owens - This UDFA is going to be a BEAST! Running and hitting is his game. I think he's made the team already and will be moving up the depth chart. 4. Speaking of UDFAs, I think we have hit on several. Chigozie Anusium is a smooth athlete with good size who played well against Miami. He is a keeper, IMO. 5. The other UDFA we need to keep is Michael Wiley. He has earned the 3rd RB spot IMO. 6. The CB situation scares me. We are too weak at this position and we need to find better players or we can expect to be beaten deep a lot again this season. 7 (and last). The Kicker position is a CODE RED! Send in the reserve platoon of Kicker candidates ASAP.

Re: Commanders Pre-Season Game(s) Thread
Good observations in my opinion.
Driskel has been pretty good. It's so hard to evaluate though when he's going against dudes who probably won't be in the NFL in a couple weeks. DQ said the QB room is "special". Whatever decisions they make so it remains that way, are ok with me. The kicker position IS a Code Red. I feel like it's been several years since we had a kicker for whom I wasn't holding my breath every time he lined up for a FG. We're definitely losing a couple close games this year due to missed kicks. I tend to agree with your assessment of the CB situation. Our apparent starters are getting burned by backups. It could get ugly when it's 1s vs 1s. The only thing that makes me think it's not as bad as it has seemed is we haven't really played our starting D-line much. I'm hoping that makes a difference. It doesn't look good, though. |
