Maryland - Penn State rivalry will be back...unless part of this transaction is kicking Pedo State out.

Maryland moving to Big Ten (Updated)

Here's another link (just to be redundant).

I'm really not sure how I feel about this. As the son of a Terps football season ticket holder I guess this will make for more exciting games, as long as recruiting picks up a bit. But I feel like this comes at the expense of basketball, which I don't like.

Re: Maryland is (potentially) moving to the Big 10

People are making a huge deal out of this; fact is Maryland has been complete crap in both football and basketball the past 10 years. I don't see how them moving to the Big 10 is going to help them in terms of wins. Sure they'll make money, but the money only keeps coming for so long until you continue to lose then get kick out of the conference for sucking; i.e. Temple in the Big East was awful, gets kicked out, sent to the MAC does well, now back to the Big East we're they're struggling.

This is just stupid for Maryland. That Basketball team will be test just as much as that football team.

Now Rutgers moving to the B1G would be a good move. They seem like they're that Big 10 defense type of team. Basketball wise though, they will struggle, but not as much since the big east is better than the big 10.

I don't like it. How is it a great move, SS?

Also Rutgers may be making the move, too.

I don't follow lacrosse all that much but I do root for the Terps to do well and I usually try to watch them in the NCAA tournament, so I am interested in seeing out this will play out: Conference Realignment: Maryland, Rutgers and the Great Unknown of Big Ten Lacrosse - College Crosse

Big 11 has more money, a TV Network that the school will get a slice of...and weaker teams. That conference is garbage this year. With teams like Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, you'd expect a ton of success. This season, not so much. The Terps might actually be a little more competitive in football and the conference will be a cakewalk for the basketball team compared to UNC, Duke, etc.

Apparently, Maryland had no choice, they needed money desperately.

Blogs - Fayobserver.com - Maryland departure hurts, but not damaging to ACC football

Basketball. I guess if they keep playing Duke it's okay but never again will it have ACC title implications. I guess Virginia can be scheduled. Still Big 10 is coming off it's weakest year in a long time and now they choose to join? Don't know how I feel about that.

Re: Maryland is (potentially) moving to the Big 10

A good article about why Maryland went to the Big 10

Maryland's probably going to the Big Ten. But why? - Testudo Times

I think this will be good in the long run for Maryland. Basketball will be fine, I assume there will still be an ACC-Big 10 Challenge? I think Maryland Basketball is rebuilding and reloading; they should be competitive in the next couple of years. Football-wise, I really don't know what will happen, but we are already a joke in that sport. The Big 10 wins big here by having access to a big TV market; possibly even bigger with the addition of Rutgers.

Well as Scott Van Pelt said, it's all about football. Basketball is good but it doesn't even come close to generating the type of revenue football does. However it worked out the Big 10 seemed to assure Maryland that they would never have to worry about ending the year in the red regardless of how they play.

Step 1: Join Big 10
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Profit!
