Re: WBC

So judging by the length and content of this thread, this WBC bears far less meaning than MLB for you guys?
Had never watched baseball before moving to Japan, but it's the number sports around here, so I've been to a game once, appreciated the atmosphere, and ending up watching the end of both Japan's semifinal and the final game.
Not nearly as entertaining as football, but even as somebody barely understanding the rules, it does create quite high tension.

So does this actually make Japan the best team on the planet at the moment, or would they be unable to compete with an MLB team ?

Re: WBC

Mike Minnow and Paul Goldshit combined to go 1-9 with 5 k's. And the 1 hit was a lucky blooper. They were the No. 2 and 3 hitters. Pathetic fucking choke job by both of them. The best player in baseball and the NL MVP couldn't combine to do jack fucking squat.

The WBC has a way to go before it has importance on the level of the World Cup or Hockey World Championships. This is only the fifth time its been played I think. Most American MLB fans are very much for club before anything else but if you went to the Dominican, where there is more national pride in players making to the majors, they follow their countrymen more than a particular club.

In terms of Japan, they are legit. They were favored to win the tournament and obviously did not disappoint. They have tons of MLB talent and the players the have in the Japan League could also play on a MLB roster.

I am going to channel my inner Chico. Baseball is great. It is like the perfect woman. It is there every night during the season. There is a little bit of action every night and it doesn't care whether you show up or not.

Re: WBC

I didn't tune in for a ton of the WBC, but what I watched was pretty exciting including last night. Baseball with a playoff like atmosphere is always amazing. Even with the Diaz injury I can't hate on the WBC. Now, let's get ready for some regular season MLB!

Re: WBC

Japan is a great baseball country. Just look at their little leaguers. It is fun and all but I do not ever want any of my Yankees playing in it. Especially pitchers. No way. I want a fully healthy squad when MLB starts.

Being an O’s fan I will never see a team in the WS so if I can root for a team in the WBC championship that will have to do.

Interesting, thanks. So WBC still has a long way to go in terms of clout, but level on the field ain't that far off behind the MLB?

Re: WBC

Let's put it this way Punch, I love Cedric Mullins but he got injured laying out for the US and we won I would be ecstatic and will his absence really impact the O's season? Judge on the other hand is an entirely different monster.

MLB side note: If the O's play as close to perfection for 162 they probably could get the 3rd in the east. In reality they could have a very good season and still finish 5th.
