Re: Hugo Chavez Dead

Latin America will not be the same. Whatever we might think about Chavez, he was a hero to many from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego.

Exactly. Whoever thought highly of Chavez was either brainwashed, had their pockets lined by him, or were completely ignorant to the way most of the world works.

The world is better today because of his death, so f him. Too bad I don't believe in heaven or hell, because this guy would definitely be in hell.

Re: Hugo Chavez Dead

I was not defending Chavez, with whom I had some disagreements. Notice my qualifier, "Whatever we might think." But my statement above is factually correct.

The comparison of Chavez with Hitler is a poor one. Chavez was a socialist whereas Hitler was a fascist, putting them at opposite ends of the ideological spectrum. Chavez never started a world war. Chavez was not directly responsible for the deaths of millions upon millions. To compare Chavez with Hitler is to forget who Hitler really was.

Re: Hugo Chavez Dead

Shouldn't this be in the debating with the enemy thread? This is going to turn into a, "socialism corrupts" thread.

Or whatever, Chavez was nothing to me. *shrugs*

You said he was a hero to millions, I merely compared his 'worship' to Hitler. You're presenting the straw man of ideologies.

Yawn.

Fine. Have it your way. Let's use your logic. Since George Washington was a hero to many, he was like Hitler. Or so you must think to remain consistent in your logic.

Or perhaps you should revise your intellectually lazy comparison of Chavez with Hitler.

Chavez/Hitler despotic dictators. Washington? Great leader, beloved and benign. Oh, and half of the name of my favorite NFL team, commie!

Which brings me back to the point I made before: Chavez a socialist, Hitler a fascist mass murderer. Not the same.

"Despotic dictator" does not say much, as it is vague and non-descriptive. There are many different ways to be a "despotic dictator." Cyrus of Persia, for example, was a despotic dictator, but he encouraged tolerance throughout his realm and freed Jews from the Babylonian exile. Is a man who kills Jews and a man who frees them the same?

Like I said, intellectually lazy thinking in this thread.

Evil leaders are still evil leaders. Hitler was a vegetarian, yet his other activities outweigh that effort, for me.

I'm sure your flexible moral yardstick has been further warped from extended immersion in the sewer of fraudulent academia.
