Tragic news: Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart killed in hit-and-run

Terrible news out of California this morning, where we've just learned that the Angels' Nick Adenhart was killed in an early morning hit-and-run accident in Fullerton on Thursday.
The news was first reported by TMZ and later confirmed by Yahoo! Sports baseball columnist Tim Brown.
Just 22 years old, Adenhart started for Los Angeles on Wednesday night and struck out five over six scoreless innings in a 6-4 loss to Oakland.

According to reports, Adenhart was driving home with three others in his Mitsubishi when a mini-van ran through a red light and hit Adenhart's car, causing it to crash into a light pole. Two passengers in the car died on the scene while another was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the mini-van fled the scene, but was later apprehended by police.
This is the most tragic news you can imagine in the baseball world and our thoughts go out to Adenhart's family and the entire Angels' organization, which was already reeling from the death of a fan who was involved in a fight on Opening Day.

Man this is horrible news. We all know how it feels to have a bright light on our favorite team suddenly and tragically go out. Really sad.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire team and their fans.

He was a local kid too. He was born in Silver Spring MD. He played for Williamsport High school which is about 10 minutes from my house. He was a big deal when he was in HS. I saw him pitch once a couple of years ago and he was awesome.

So sad I'm a huge Angels fan and watched the game last night. Adenhart looked great! It's hard to believe he was going to be dead in a few hours. I had the exact opposite feeling last night as im a an A's fan and he pitched well. So sad to see someone die, right as their life is taking off.

A soft-spoken 22-year-old, Nick Adenhart often looked and acted more like a batboy than the Angels' top pitching prospect. He showed up to Wednesday's game, for example, wearing a faded Washington Redskins T-shirt and jeans with holes in them.

If convicted on all charges, he faces 55 years to life. And he's only 22. Add him to list of lives ruined by this. Senseless. It makes me sad and pissed off at the same time.

Yeah that's the worst part, it's just so senseless. So many lives ruined over one dumb decision to drive drunk.

Yes, but the murderer made his own choices and has only himself to blame for the consequences. Adenhart and the other people killed had no choice in losing their lives. Tough to feel ANY sympathy for the drunk driver.
