Undrafted FAs!

Thank's Matty!

Here is what I found.

Ten Undrafted Rookies Added
By Gary Fitzgerald
Redskins.com
April 27, 2004

With the Redskins having a limited number of picks heading into the 2004 NFL Draft, head coach Joe Gibbs has stressed the importance of finding quality undrafted rookie free agents once the draft ended Sunday night.
Gibbs hopes at least one of the 10 players the team has agreed to terms with on Tuesday develops into a quality starter, if not a Pro Bowl player.

The list of undrafted rookie free agents, which includes four defensive linemen and three wide receivers, is as follows:

Ryan Boschetti, DL, UCLA
Jonathan Brewer, WR, Howard
Rufus Brown, CB, Florida State
Quinn Christensen, OL, BYU
Norman Heuer, DL, Michigan
William Strother, LB, New Mexico
John Standeford, WR, Purdue
Garnell Wilds, CB, Virginia Tech
Jafar Williams, WR, Maryland
Dennard Wilson, S, Maryland
Wilson is a local product who grew up in Upper Marlboro, Md., and attended DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Md. Wilson, Williams and Brewer were in attendance at the team's local workout in early April.

All of the rookie free agents, as well as the Redskins' four NFL Draft selections from last weekend, will be in attendance at the team's second mini-camp of the offseason from April 30-March 2.

Ryan Boschetti
Position: Defensive tackle
College: UCLA
Height: 6-4
Weight: 306

OVERVIEW
Underrated talent who joined Rodney Leisle in forming one of the premier defensive tackle tandems in college football … Joined the Bruins after excelling at the College of San Mateo (2000-01), where he was rated the best defensive tackle in the junior college ranks … Spent the 2003 offseason adding weight and strength to his frame and the results were evident by his stellar play as a senior … Boschetti is a very athletic player with good technique … He is very aggressive on the field and as the team's tallest of the tackles, he does a good job breaking up passes … Started 18 of 23 games at UCLA, recording 66 tackles (47 solos) with four sacks for minus-24 yards, 13 stops for losses of 36 yards, two forced fumbles, three pass deflections and a blocked kick.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a thick chest, broad shoulders, long, muscular arms and large hands … Makes proper reads off the snap, using his hands effectively to push off the blockers … Does a nice job of breaking down and diagnosing the plays, showing good alertness working through traffic … Holds his ground firmly, showing a wide leg base to prevent blockers from pushing him around … Takes on blocks with aggression and knows how to extend his arms to fend off the cut block … Reacts quickly to the offensive lineman's movement and works out of any disadvantage with forceful arm swipes … More of a technique and wrap tackler rather than an explosive one, but uses his arms well to stalk and secure the ball carriers … More suited for a two-gap system, as he feels comfortable when taking on plays in front of him rather than working down the line.

Negatives: Lacks the foot speed and change of direction agility to get out of his stance quickly … Seems better tackling in the box, as he does not have the top-end speed to cover ground in space … Can push the pocket, but does not have the burst to get to the quarterback (has a good straight-line force move, but fails to adjust and redirect quickly) … Has a good blue-collar work ethic, but needs to show his aggression more consistently … His lack of ideal body control and flexibility will cause him to get locked out or walled off by blockers on traps and pulls.
AGILITY TESTS
5.14 in the 40-yard dash … 420-pound bench press … 33 3/8-inch arm length … 10 1/8-inch hands … Right-handed.

and
Boschetti is a transfer from the College of San Mateo. He was a prolific pass rusher in 2000 and 2001 at San Mateo, garnering 24 sacks in two years. Contributing 43 tackles in 13 games this year, he led the defensive line in that category. An athletic player with good quickness and technique, he is adept at getting his hands up and taking away passing lanes. A weakness is his lack of explosiveness off the ball, and he lacks downfield speed to make plays outside of the box. He also needs to develop quicker hands and improve his pass rushing moves. Boschetti is good at locating the ball and focusing on where the play is intended to go.

Heuer - DT 6'5", 288, 5.1 40yd

BIO: Three-year starter that posted 16/3/1 after 31/9/5 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Hard-working lineman with the frame to add bulk and strength to his body. Quick off the snap, plays with leverage and good pad level. Gets push up the field and competes hard to make the play.

NEGATIVES: Lacks balance, handled in one-on-one blocking situations and neutralized at the point. Lacks speed to the flanks and the ability to quickly close on the ball handler.

ANALYSIS: A prospect that must get bigger and stronger, Heuer must blossom into a space eater on the inside to have a shot.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

Little tidbit about Heuer...

During the draft, Redskins representatives told Heuer that if the player they wanted in the sixth round - Notre Dame offensive tackle Jim Molinaro -
wasn't available, they'd pick Heuer. Molinaro ended up getting drafted by Washington, but the Redskins (who didn't have a seventh-round choice)
remembered Heuer. The 6-5, 288-pound Heuer had been scouted by the Redskins' Shemy Schembechler, son of former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler. "I think this is the best situation for me," Heuer said. "They've been very interested in me since the beginning."

that's from allthingsMichigan

I remember him in college. He's not bad. I think he was injured of and on @ UM. He's really tall. Could be a nice space eater in the middle.

Rufus Brown
Position: Cornerback
College: Florida State
Height: 5-9
Weight: 190
Hometown: El Paso, Texas

Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal
OVERVIEW
Steady performer for the Seminoles who was a valuable part of the team's cornerback rotation … Durable and tough competitor who never missed a game due to injuries … In 50 contests, he started 31 times, recording 100 tackles (79 solos) with four stops for losses of 10 yards, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, four interceptions for 61 yards in returns (15.3 avg.) and 17 pass deflections.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has good overall muscle development … Has the speed to come up and support vs. the run, using his hands effectively to take receivers off their routes … Has adequate foot agility and body control in his backpedal … Shows very good acceleration to recover on deep routes … Has natural hands and good ball skills to make the interception in front of him … His straight-line quickness and burst allows him to recover when beaten … Shows a good change of direction agility when moving laterally.

Negatives: His small, narrow frame has little room for additional and needed bulk … Has a bit of edge to him and works to his own agenda … Not one you would look towards for leadership and struggles with hard coaching … Does not have much feel for pass routes and is slow at times to anticipate and jump into the play … Lacks the short area quickness needed in man coverage (will get turned around) … Will lose position coming out of transition and his breaks working in the zone are not clean … Takes extra steps coming out of his backpedal, but does have the speed to recover … Lacks true aggression and does not seem willing to play vs. the run (takes blocks on softly and will lose leverage on the play) … Marginal open-field tackler who will miss at times, especially when he dips his shoulder and ducks his head upon contact.
AGILITY TESTS
4.5 in the 40-yard dash … 320-pound bench press … 410-pound squat … 276-pound power clean … 34½-inch vertical jump … 9-foot-6 broad jump … 30-inch arm length … 9¾-inch hands … Right-handed.

There may be more!

Prospect Profiles

Sean Taylor
Position: Free safety
College: Miami (Fla.)
Height: 6-2
Weight: 231
Hometown: Miami, Fla.
Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal
OVERVIEW
The prototype for a free safety, blessed with the quickness of a cover cornerback and the size of a strong-side linebacker … Has a rare combination of size, speed, strength and agility … Taylor is a brutally hard hitter who also displays excellent skills as a coverage man and in run support … A standout in the tradition of former UM safeties Edward Reed and Bennie Blades … In 34 games, he recorded 188 tackles (130 solos) with a 4-yard sack, seven stops for losses of 21 yards and two pressures … Also blocked two kicks … Intercepted 14 passes for 306 yards in returns (21.9 avg.) and three touchdowns … His 14 pass thefts rank fourth on the school's career list, behind Fred Marion (16, 1978-81), Bennie Blades (19, 1984-87) and Ed Reed (21, 1999-2001) … Only Reed (389) gained more yards on interception returns in school history … Added eight punt returns for 154 yards (19.3 avg.) and a score, 86 yards on three kickoff returns (28.7 avg.) and also scored on a 47-yard reception.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a tall, muscular frame with long arms, valid hands and excellent field vision … Will strike with tremendous force and shows classic wrap-up tackling technique, staying low in his pads with a wide leg base to stalk and secure … Can plant and drive instantly breaking out his backpedal, using his long legs to stay stride-for-stride with receivers in the deep zone … Shows discipline in man coverage and does not waste time peeking in at the quarterback … Has enough foot speed to challenge any receiver on deep routes … Natural and smooth in transition, taking no wasted steps in his motion … Will challenge receivers going up for the ball, timing his leaps to get to the pigskin at its high point … Does a very good job of getting his hands on his opponent, using a strong hand jolt to knock the receiver off stride … Can recognize and react with force when asked to help in run support … Has large, natural hands and a knack for making the big interception that will change the complexion of the game … Very effective covering on vertical routes and quickly sees plays develop in front of him … Extends his arms and drives with his legs to drive ball carriers back when filling the rush lanes … Despite his wide frame, he makes plays laterally that few free safeties have the range to make.
Negatives: Has good flexibility, but appears a little stiff in his upper body when having to turn suddenly on the ball … Fine wrap-up tackler, but will get too aggressive at times, relying on his strength to punish a receiver rather than just bring him down (causes him to slip off a few tackles) … Gets a little too confident in himself and needs to continue his maturity process.
AGILITY TESTS
4.54 in the 40-yard dash … 365-pound bench press … 34½-inch vertical jump.
HIGH SCHOOL
Attended Gulliver (Miami, Fla.) Academy, playing football for coach Steve Howie … Rated the No. 7 prospect in Dade County by the Miami Herald, the nation's No. 18 skill athlete by SuperPrep (also a SuperPrep All-American) the No. 23 overall prospect in Florida by SuperPrep and was an Orlando Sentinel Super Southern Team selection … Listed as the No. 1 athlete on the Florida Times-Union Super 75 list and the No. 14 player in Florida by the Gainesville Sun … Accounted for three touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing) in the state title game victory over Marianna … Teammate of quarterback and fellow UM signee Buck Ortega … Helped lead Gulliver to the Florida Class 2A State Championship in 2000 … Was a star on both sides of the ball in 2000, as he rushed for 1,300 yards and a state-record 44 touchdowns … Played running back, defensive back and linebacker … Rushed for more than 200 yards twice during Gulliver's state playoff run … Racked up more than 100 tackles during the 2000 season … Displayed excellent hands as a receiver.

OVERVIEW
Former defensive lineman who found a home at tight end after moving to the offense as a sophomore … Became the first non-wide receiver since 1983 to lead the team in receiving as a senior … Also led the nation's tight ends in receptions and receiving yards in 2003, accounting for over 25 percent of the team's aerial yards … Caught at least two passes in 17 consecutive games and had at least four receptions in 13 of his last 14 contests … While known for his receiving skills, he is also an excellent blocker, earning team Golden Helmet Award honors, given to the Aggies' hardest hitter … Appeared in 31 games on offense, starting 15 contests as he hauled in 95 passes for 1,255 yards (13.2 avg.) and 11 touchdowns, adding 21 yards and a score on three carries (7.0 avg.) … Competed in eight games on defense as a freshman and also performed on special teams, collecting 27 tackles (20 solos) with two sacks for minus-10 yards, four stops for losses of 23 yards, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Negatives: Frame has little room for additional growth (best when playing at 255) … Lacks the speed needed to accelerate on deep routes, needing to gather himself before reaching top speed … Has good weight room strength, but needs to drive better with his legs in order to wall off and sustain as a drive blocker … Gets into his routes quicker when used in motion, as he lacks a strong initial burst off the line of scrimmage.

Prospect Profiles

Mark Wilson
Position: Offensive Tackle
College: California
Height: 6-6
Weight: 314
Hometown: McArthur, Calif.
Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal
OVERVIEW
The anchor of the Golden Bears' offensive line, having started every game (48) during his career, breaking the school record of 46 starts by Todd Steussie (1990-93) … A product of hard work in the team's weight room, adding over 60 pounds of muscle and bulk to his frame since arriving on campus as a freshman … A Freshman All-American, he started at right tackle during his first two years before shifting to the left side as a junior … Has long arms and good athletic ability, which translates into being a top pass protector … The standout high school basketball player has very good agility for a man his size … Spent the summer as a garlic harvester in 2000.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Rangy athlete with a wide frame that can add at least another 15 pounds of bulk with no loss of quickness … Emerging team leader with a very aggressive nature … Flashes explosion on contact, striking with a very strong hand punch … Can redirect to movement and works his feet properly to wall off and sustain … When he stays low in his pads, he fires out quickly on traps and pulls, where he is very effective at approaching his target with force … Has made steady improvement working in the second level, as he now shows no hesitation breaking down the play and will land consistently thanks to taking proper blocking angles on the defender … Bends his knees and sets quickly in pass protection … Shows good hip snap when making contact working in-line.
Negatives: Needs to continue applying himself like he did in 2003 (in the past, he would not compete well in practice and the coaches were constantly on him in regards to his class work – did enough in school to barely remain eligible) … A little stiff in his stance, which causes him to take a poor kick step at times … Needs to stay low in his pads, for when he gets high in his stance, he will over-extend and lose balance … Has a strong hand punch, but will revert to grabbing outside the frame in order to control the defender … Has good foot speed, but gets a bit straight-legged, causing him to short stride and get turned out of position … Has better natural strength than that in the weight room (will do what is expected) … Does not have enough brute strength to handle the rigors of left tackle at the pro level (better when working on the right side, where he can feed off the guard and tight end).
AGILITY TESTS
5.43 in the 40-yard dash … 360-pound bench press … Bench presses 225 pounds 24 times … 258-pound power clean … 28½-inch vertical jump … 4.52 20-yard shuttle … 7.54 three-cone drill … 33 1/8-inch arm length … 10 1/8-inch hands.

Prospect Profiles

Jim Molinaro
Position: Offensive Tackle/Guard
College: Notre Dame
Height: 6-6
Weight: 309
Hometown: Bethlehem, Pa.
Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal
OVERVIEW
The former defensive tackle will be counted upon to man the demanding left tackle position as a senior … Moved to the offensive side of the ball as a sophomore, earning several starts towards the end of the 2002 campaign … Versatile blocker with experience at both tackle positions.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a thick, but firm midsection and hips … Displays good all-around muscle structure and has the frame that can add about 20 pounds with no lose in speed … Has wide, big shoulders and long arms … Shows good short-area quickness … Light on his feet, keeping a wide leg base to gain position … Makes good body adjustments on the move and is an effective pass protector who can sink his hips and drive defenders … Glides upfield adequately and has the ability to get the angle on the defender and seal the corner … Has the hip swerve to recover without losing his balance … Very active with his hands, going after defenders with aggression … Good with his kick slide, adjusting properly in the short area to prevent the outside penetration … Could shift inside to guard due to his ability to pull and lead around the outside as well as trap when redirecting.
Negatives: His quickness off the snap can be more effective (needs to play at a lower pad level as he tends to get a bit upright, preventing him from delivering explosion when coming up on the rise) … Has good leg strength as a drive blocker, but will overextend and lunge to make reach blocks when working in space … Better working on the outside, as he gets a little cross-legged when trying to make the inside cutoff … Can deliver a strong hand jolt when he keeps his arms in proper position, but needs to keep his hands inside the defender's chest to prevent penetration (awkward use of hands causes him to slip off blocks).
AGILITY TESTS
Timed at 5.01 in the 40-yard dash, 2.95 in the 20-yard dash, 1.88 in the 10-yard dash and 4.62 in the 20-yard shuttle … 7.62 three-cone drill time … 385-pound bench press … Bench presses 225 pounds 25 times … 500-pound squat … 32¾-inch arm length … 10 1/8-inch hands … Left-handed.
