We're allowing more 3rd down conversions this year than we did last year. The conversion rate we're allowing on 3rd downs is among the worst rates in league history, let alone worst in the NFL this year. It wasn't that bad last year, so why'd it get worse? Good coaches make at least a little bit of lemonade out of lemons. I just can't point to an area where Barry has made an improvement year over year, it's just not happening.

Re: The coordinators
Well, they inferred that Denver might be inclined to let him walk because they have an assistant they like for the job

Re: The coordinators
I have always liked really successful NFL coordinators that were so successful they were given a head coaching job. Failed as head coach and are back to being successful coordinators, where they belong.
Wade Phillips and Norv Turner come to mind. Excellent and qualified coordinators, not made to be head coach. I really do not want us to waste time with young, unproven, inexperienced and not yet successful coordinators. I do not care the Wade Phillips and Norv Turner are considered old. I consider it a good thing. The best coaches I ever had the privilege to be coached by were older guys that have a ton of experience. I do like our current offensive and defensive coordinators. They are helping, they are part of the problem. Last edited by Defensewins; 12-30-2016 at 03:08 PM. |

Either way, if they do let Phillips walk, I'd snatch him up in a heartbeat. But we already had our chance once, and I'm not sure but I don't think he falls in the "Tampa North" thing we do.

All I did was look at Jon Gruden's Wikipedia page just to see who were some of the guys he coached with. Little did I know you were a better source!

But even if we don't pursue Wade, he might intrigue another team who's looking at a D coordinator, which improves our chances at getting whoever else we target (whether Bradley or Guenther or whoever). I hope the market gets flooded with good defensive coordinators.

Re: The coordinators
Anyone else feel like they would like Rex Ryan here for Dc... but feel like he's too big a personality or high profile to JUST be a coordinator? Especially with a head coach like Jay who, to me, is kind of on the softer side personality wise?

This one play breakdown shows exactly why Joe Barry has no business being a defensive coordinator. It's all about knowing your personnel and running a scheme/plays to fit those players. Delayed safety blitzes without fast safeties isn't smart. I think you guys are enjoy fantasies about any new DC coming here. The same thing will happen with Barry as it did with Haslett. Making the playoffs will save his job and he'll get another year(s). Hell, even if we don't make the playoffs, I still think they retain him.
