Patriots better be careful, Mara might push a sanction for uncompetitive practices (accumulating to many TE's, thus diminishing the pool)

Didn't Darthy Hoody b*tch about something like this a season or two ago?

Why would the Pats need yet another TE? What am I missing here...

For the price of only 540K on the salary, Ballard is a good investment for depth at that position. Surprised he fell that far on the waiver wire actually.

The can have big thick necks and weight 265.

Why not? Pick him up for dirt cheap, turn around and flip him (or another TE on your roster) for draft picks from some other team. Smart move.

And in the process be a dick and F up the Giants plan. The Pats were just utilizing a rule that helps with "competitive balance".

Love it.

Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style

What if the NFC East ends up becoming the division that one one wants in 2012? In 2011 the division winner was 9-7 but lost twice to the team in last place twice. While the Giants got hot at the right time and won the Super Bowl, they truly were not a good team heading into the playoffs. Don't be surprised if 8-8 is the record of the NFC East winner in 2012.

Spot on, they can bring him to camp and if somebody loses a TE to an injury they could get a 5th-6th rounder in return. A late round draft pick for putting in a waiver claim, I am surprised we didn't claim him to tell you the truth. He is not a great player by any means but a team with an often injured first guy and a drug problem with the 2nd guy, why not for a 3rd option at the league minimum?
