Re: Fitzmagic Thread

I must admit my first reaction was to vote "meh", didn't hate it but wasn't that impressed either, but now am coming around to it a bit. I didn't like the interceptions he makes but in hindsite that is because he is pushing the ball further down the field.... Alex Smith on the other hand hardly ever threw interceptions because he wouldn't push the ball downfield. With AS in there I had little confidence that WFT could mount a scoring drive when it was really required. Whether you don't like his age or reputation I don't think you can argue that Fitzgerald isn't better than the QBs we have lined up for the last two years, I think WFT would have had a winning record last year if he was playing

Has Fitz ever played on Christmas Eve? Kudos to him for doing that AND getting around all those houses later the same night.

When you look at long term potential at the position, we may have the worst QB situation in the NFL. The proper approach would have been to not sign Fitz and draft 1-2 QBs and let them compete.
Err, the Packers already had Rodgers on the roster before Favre retired?

Not thinking about the Jests are you? I mean, it's not like their QB search has gone any better than ours since then...

Re: Fitzmagic Thread

Fitz is the best QB we've had since Kirk, is he great? Hell no but he's way better than Haskins, Keenum , Smith etc were.

Smith is a better game manager of course but he's not the passer Fitz is.

He's like a Romo, he will make some boneheaded plays and he'll make some crazy fun plays, with our defense you can take chances like that. He was actually going to retire but wanted to play for a good team so that says alot about his goals in DC

Re: Fitzmagic Thread

Well... he will probably be the most interesting if not flamboyant QB we've had since Billy Kilmer.

The potential downsides seem minimal. A good provisional get.

Re: Fitzmagic Thread

Pro Football Focus's improvement index as of today, including the Fitzpatrick and Jackson moves.

They measure aggregate Wins Above Replacement (WAR) before and after the moves, and measure the % difference. We're 2nd, behind New England, who has spent scads of money to get there.

It's the QB spot that moved the needle so much. It's not that Fitzpatrick is anything special, it's just that's how bad the regular season combination of Alex/Haskins/Allen was. Alex stabilized it, but if you're going to be a total statue you have to light it up from the pocket.

The 5-1 record was defense-driven. Fitzpatrick is measurably better and we're showing up as one of the most improved so far.

For those people who plays fantasy football, especially in PPR leagues. Draft McLaurin in 2nd round and you will be rewarded only because of Fitzpatrick, assuming he plays all year.

For sure.. It's going to be mixed feeling for me this year - I usually try to stay away from WFT players for fantasy football because I don't want to allow my emotions cloud my judgment when it comes to lineup but I'm not sure if it's possible this year with Gibson, McLaurin and Thomas.

At least there is one thing I already decided on - I'm going to keep Gibson in my keeper league. I will have to give up 9th round pick for keeping Gibson so this is easy one.

Re: Fitzmagic Thread

Ryan Fitzpatrick's Last 16 starts:

4,414 Yards
27 Touchdowns
13 Interceptions
65.2 Completion %

WFT Quarterback Last 16 Starts:
3,768 Yards
16 Touchdowns
16 Interceptions
64.7 Completion %

Both on exactly 599 attempts.

If Fitz can give us 27 TDs and 13 Ints this team is winning 12 games

No question he can bring us productivity at the QB spot we haven't seen since Cousins left.

Well damn, when you put it that way, a Jeff George move this is not!

Might have to grab a jersey with his number.
