Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
What confuses me is the Allen love. And excuse any ignorance shown by this post, but you have 5 quarters of Heinicke, 4 of which in a playoff game vs a motivated defense. Give me the BEST 5 quarters of Allen and let's compare.

That's no reason not to being him back to compete for the QB2 (or 3) role as he knows the system very well. But right now I'd say Heinicke has the edge on QB2, mainly because he's shown himself capable of starting. Heinicke has shown enough to at least compete for the starting role in camp but I don't see him winning it, and not least because there will still be that 'fragile' tag hanging over him. He's shown good in 1.5 games but he's also lost roster spots twice in the past through injury and then he got hurt again Saturday. He needs a bigger sample size and to stay healthy over a 17+ game season to prove he's long term starter material. Staff would be foolish to hang all our hopes on him right now. |

He definitely deserves a shot he's earned that inspite of his political views.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Heinke would be a great backup for us. Probably more affordable than Allen.
My first QB move would be retiring Alex Smith, the easy way or hard way. Second, would be getting Heineken under contract in a affordable 2-3 deal. Guy is a gamer, you don’t let that walk. He can heal up holding a clipboard behind our starter

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
The cost for Watson would be too high. Depleting draft picks for one guy rarely works. Dak is not worthy of being paid like the best playing in the league. Stafford is starting to break down
How about we do out and find our own guy? Are we capable of drafting our own guy? Can we develop Heinike? Let's not hit the panic button on the QB. I would bring back Heinike, Allen and draft someone. |

Maybe it's because the wild card game was just a couple of days ago but I really want Heinicke to have a chance to compete for the starting job. Something he won't get if we bring in a Watson/Stafford... Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Gotta remember, the salary cap is coming down...teams weren’t prepared for this, so it will limit those looking to spend also could force maybe a couple premature cuts to vets as well.
Our salary cap status is great and to be in this predicament may lead to some bargins in free agency we could take advantage of.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Heinicke's size wouldn't be an issue if he had Brady and Russ' ability to stay healthy. But he doesn't. Every time he's played he's gotten injured.
Brady said it best, the best thing a qb can offer his team is availability. That is the indictment on Heinicke. You can't just ask a guy to turn off his willingness to play with reckless abandon. I hate to say it but if we give up picks or players to someone else for their qb, Heinicke is slated to be a backup at best next year. Which I wouldn't mind because if he was the starter I'd make sure we had a solid backup behind him.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
If I can act as mediator here, I don't think anyone here is suggesting we let Heinicke walk.
I wholeheartedly say sign him up as he certainly looks like he has more upside than Allen. Like many though, I am concerned that he's not durable enough and that we've only seen a small sample size in the pro's. Thus I want him here to complete against whoever else comes here, and if he win's great; I just wouldn't hang the immediate future of the team on him without at least giving him adequate competition to prove himself against. |

Totally agree. On the flipside I dont think anyone is saying we should anoint Heineken the week one starter with zero competition or free agent acquisitions to consider. Some, like myself, are just really impressed by what he did and rooting for him to win the job. Or at the very least if we bring in a Stafford we know we got a very capable backup. Only time will tell. |

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
If anyone should realize that any quarterback can get hurt it should be us. They can sign or draft whoever they like. If Heineken out does em in practice he will be given the chance to start. If he gets hurt he gets hurt (Ivan Drago voice).

Hey we won the division with a bust, a guy coming off the most horrific injury of any quarterback ever, and kyle fuckin allen. I highly doubt that 7 wins takes the division next year but i also highly doubt there will not be a new quarterback on our roster in week one. More than likely Heineken will be the backup. We will have a big name vet starting. Unless Heineken impresses that much in camp. Either way we will have a much better quarterback group next season. |
