I ask because of the CBS report from yesterday that it would occur the next couple of days.

#Colts I am told meeting confirmed for this evening at Irsay's house in Carmel. Grigson is not included

coltsinsider Dan Graham @
@french_sebo I highly doubt that anything is formally announced until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. But we all know what's coming
I have no idea. Wasn't able to confirm anything

Mr. Smoot, why would we sign McCoy and Shipley. I dont mind Shipley for some young receiver depth but why mccoy? i really hope they dont believe he could be our qb of the future if we do end up signing a vet like manning. I have no faith in mccoy and would much rather a rookie qb than him.

I'll play nice here and just say don't read into that too much.

'tis a joke. Some dude keeps coming on here seemingly only to tell us that his sources say "were getting McCoy and Shipley" and then he disappears for a few days

Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign

so say for instance the colts decide to part ways with Peyton and release him next week, can anyone sign him immediately or do they have to wait unitl March when free agency begins. I wanna say immediately since he would be released and not another teams free agent but im not sure.

Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign

I think he would have to clear waivers. I don't see why he wouldn't be subject to the same waiver rules as everyone else [even if he is Peyton Manning]. I wonder if we could just claim him - if we could, we would have to pay the remainder of the contract he signed with the Colts.

If it is just a waiver claim, I am all for it. Hell, it's not my money.

I don't think the waiver wire applies during the off-season. Cut = Free Agent.

From current CBA.

Quote:
(a) Whenever a player who has finished the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers between February 1 and the trading deadline, his contract will be considered terminated and the player will be completely free at any time thereafter to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period. If the waivers occur after that time, the player's Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club. However, if such player is claimed and awarded, he shall have the option to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the League Year in question if he has a no-trade clause in his Player Contract. If such player does not have a no-trade clause and the Player Contract being awarded through waivers covers more than one additional season, the player shall have the right to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent as set forth above at the end of the League Year following the League Year in which he is waived and awarded.

(b) Whenever a player who has finished less than the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers, the player's Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club.

Right. I forgot about the "Terminated Contract" category. I remember seeing it around free agency time in the past. It's interesting how the waiver process is suspended for only the two month after the season and before free agency AND how it only applies to "vested" players.

Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign

I see three options this off season.

RG3, Manning, or Flynn.

Anything else with the exception of the unlikely ones (Bradford/Luck/etc) don't make us better.

Here is one more from today's Examiner:

Eyeing the QBs: Kyle Orton | Washington Examiner

This seems to make some sense as a Plan B type of option.

Re: QB Apocalypse: The Seventh Sign

It's just like Atogwe. He was released by the Rams last year and was the one player we could sign before the league year started.

If the Colts release Manning he becomes completely free and it's immediately open season.
