Not many Game managers win titles. Dilfer and Johnson are the exception but defenses like they had dont come along every season.
Maybe I have a different definition of Gunslinger, but Manning is the penultimate game manager to me, he directs everything, can throw the long ball, but ultimately doesn't make dumb mistakes. Not sure I would qualify Tom Brady as a "gunslinger" either.

For me a gunslinger is personified in Favre, Romo has some of it too. A qb who thinks he can get the ball inbetween those 2-4 bad guys, and has the arm to back it up, most of the time. The problem is for every Favre, or even Romo who can back it up a dozen wannabees fail out because their INT/TD ratio is a killer.

I definitely don't want a gunslinger, but I would take Manning or Brady.

So who do you think is the ultimate game manager?

Well put.

When I said "gunslinger" in reference to Colt, I mentioned Favre/Romo. Favre being the career interception leader, and notoriously risky with ball, he is the "gunslinger" I think of first and foremost. And for all the success he had statistically, he only has 1 ring, for now. Romo maybe not as much, but I still see a bit of "gunslinger" in him as well. Kurt Warner I might put in that group, even though Im aware he did have a nice run last year(Fitz and Anquan didnt help at all ). And even though he had an incredible game(31/43 377yds 3tds), he did have the one interception that Harrison returned for the TD. BTW, Steelers 27 Cardinals 23 so that one play had a huge outcome on the game, especially since it was returned from the Steeler 1yd line. He had a great run, but eventually taking risks will get you burned. Its the reason Im happy with Romo being the Cowgirls QB, I dont believe he can put 3-4 consistent games together back to back, especially against the elite teams in the playoffs.

And Id never put Manning/Brady in that group, because I have common sense. Brady two seasons ago 50tds/8ints, I dont think thats being risky. Early Manning was a bit risky(young & dumb), but these two have consistently had twice as many TD's than INT's.

I do love the throwing downfield to take defenders out of the box, this can only help. And maybe Im just an "old timer" like Gibbs...but if you run the ball well, play good defense and take care of the ball, you win games. Turnovers almost always make the little differences in games, and "gunslinger" isnt what I want.

One could argue that it was a "gunslinger's" turnover which cost us the game last night.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

I'm impressed with Campbell tonight. He wasn't perfect but he was making plays and looks like he can only get better. I loved the pump to fake out the defender for the touchdown. That was classic. Hopefully he continues to work hard and he'll be able to put it all together sometime this season.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

I missed most of the first half last night. I am watching it now on NFL network. The opening drive we looked pretty good. Campbell was pretty sharp. I liked seeing Thomas and Kelly on the field. After the penalty on the opening kick..and kicking from the 25 the Rayner put the ball almost in the end zone. I dont believe Suisham has the kind of leg strength.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

Lots of good things from last nite. A couple great things. First the response in the second quarter from the entire team. The defensive got it stuff together and JC lead the team back to tie it up. I thought that was just huge. JC preformance is what we have been waiting for and he looked great. O-line did pretty good, would have like to seen us open a couple more holes for the back, but they held up well. The defense tighten in the second which was big, because they were getting kicked around a little bit in the first quarter. I think you got to give Coach Blanche a lot of credit for that with mixing up the D calls. Woulda like to seen Brady under a little more pressure and I think D Hall didnt play as bad as it intially seemed. His coverage was pretty good on that touchdown to Moss. I though Smoot played pretty well and I also think Rodgers not being on the field really shows how important his presence really is. I tell you, I would love to find an excuse to keep Mason this year. The second half was crazy. Barnes got his interception to solidify his spot on the team. Colt needs to stop throwing picks in the red zone. This is really really bad. His toss to Marko was a great way to respond, but another red zone still leaves this competition wide open. Great game, just love to see JC gettin it done.

Marko Mitchell is a stud and should move ahead of ARE in the depth chart, atleast to the 4 slot. Kelly is our #2 for sure, and Thomas looked ok. My favorite play was JC to Cooley for 70+ yards!!!! Big Year again for Cooley.
Cooley may be the best YACer we have. He's impossible to take down once he gets a head of steam. Took a gang tackle to finally stop him.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

We palyed a solid game. Lots of bright spots with the newer players.

Special Teams, especially covering punt returns, needs work at this point. We let several very good ST players go this off season and it shows. I think this is correctable but it needs work.

As for special teams, their kick coverage was much improved from the Pittsburgh game.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

you know what impressed me more than anything, the fact that after Heyer got called for a hold, the Skins were put in 2nd and 18. Last year, its over, drive has stalled maybe the skins get a field goal. This time, zorn picked a good couple of plays and the chains were moved without too much effort. That is what gives me the most hope.

I was impressed too. NE is one of the best teams in the NFL. Very proud of the way the team hung in there after getting down 17-7. And very proud how JC responded too. He missed a TD to Moss and the offense went 3 straight 3 and outs. I like how he brought us back. He was throwing with confidence.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

Wow people will always find a way to hate on JC. My buddy called me on the overthrow and was complaining. It's like he forgot everything before and after that one play.

Screw everyone. Thats why at times I hope campbell doesnt get a deal and succeeds elsewhere, some skins "fans" really piss me off.

Re: I Was impressed!!!

A few things impressed me last night.
1. Jason looks good when he has time to make a play his intermediate, short, and long balls looked really good
2. Mrcus Mason needs to be on the football team
3. The defense battled back after getting torched. The guys will fight all year
4. Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly are the real deal.
5.Marko Mitchell will be on this football team
6. Colt Brennan is not ready for the spotlight he looked really bad again \st the number 1 defense of the pats. looked ok against scrubs
7.Orakpo made some relly nice plays but Pats oline handled our guys and got them of balance with thier passing game.
8.Do we really need Rock Cartwright?
9. Ladell Betts will be on the team. Aldridge had one good quarter not sold on him at all.
10. LIKED THE WAY THE 1st team defense created turnovers in the second half
11.Kevin Barnes will make plays in this league
12. WE MADE WAY TO MANY MISTAKES WITH PENALTIES!
