Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread

Future is definitely looking bright for the Nats. I wasn't just impressed with Strasburg's return from Tommy John surgery, Brad Peacock looked good in limited action as well and so did Chris Marrerro. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do next season. I also liked that they finished with a winning record against the Phillies this year after sweeping them in that 4 game set. Very impressive.

I suppose he's still mulling his options, I've heard the Nats are still interested though.

Hey SmootSmack, do you know any baseball insiders? If so, any word on Fielder?

I"ll be honest...I never really had a good relationship with the baseball insiders at the worldwide leader

But that's neither here nor there. I haven't heard anything definitive on Fielder yet

Understood, just thought I'd check. I don't really follow any baseball blogs or anything, so all I've heard lately is that some guy who may be less than reliable tweeted that Nats have a deal in place but are just working out the details.

Honestly, as a Nats fan, I guess I'd like them to sign him but it's not the end of the world for me if they don't. At this point I just kind of want to know where he's going to end up.

That really wouldn't surprise me, they really need to do something to get the the fans excited. Plus, I think it makes more sense for him to go to the AL.

I am a "lean against" on signing Fielder. It very likely screws up the long term makeup of the team and unless the Lerners change their ways it almost certainly means no Zimmerman extension.

I jsut heard that. Is it definite? Oh well, I kind of wanted him in DC, but not for that kind of money.

You're right, the length of the deal has got to be the craziest part.

Yeah I'm glad the Nats didn't give him that kind of deal anyways. Plus I wouldn't have been happy about it if it meant no Zimmerman extension.

Don't get me wrong...conservatively they'll get a monster for 3-4 years but a guy that size and with that type of makeup can't be expected to stay healthy into his 30's. They're going to get old pretty fast in 5 years and be tied into a hell of a lot of money to be so.
