Hands down we need to get clinton portis some help, I think beanie wells or percy harvin, or moreno; explosive playmakers in the first round. dont waste 1st round pick on mediocore OL and DL class. free agency can handle that need.

Interesting thoughts on the weak OL and DL class. Since I don't watch much college ball, I couldn't agree or disagree with that statement. But shouldn't you be able to find an x factor running back in the mid rounds? ala Leon Washington or Darren Sproles? I can't see taking a guy like Beanie Wells coming off of injury with the 13th overall pick.

Does anyone think that if Sanchez is on the board the Skins take him. I would.

Depends on who would look better taking a dirtnap at FedEx. Sanchez looks like a deep sleeper but I still think that Campbell can beat him out.

There are a lot of guys I would like to have in this draft but if we don't get some players on the line soon we're gonna be in some deep dookie for quite awhile.

We have no need for a QB right now and sanchez will be a bust anyway, IMO... We have about 7 other position needs before we need a QB

Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft

sorry, been away a while, so i'm not entirely up to speed (disappointing, i know :P).

anyways, I agree that OL/DL is the way to go, just like it was last year (grr).

lots of decent FAs, though a bunch are ancient (birk, runyan, et al). jahri evans or khalif barnes would start day one for us though, if that's possible to work out. we can try to grab nugent to kick and draft DL, since that's a weaker FA class after the franchise tags are handed out. Orakpo seems to show up in a lot of lists for us...

I think heyward-bey and lauranitis are the best value picks in the later first round right now (not for us, just in general), though they'll probably be top 15-20 by draft day.

Welcome back(?) How about Willis out of Seattle for a RT FA? He only gave up 1.5 sacks last year and is very young.

I might be wrong on this Goat but I thought Willis only played tackle because Jones was hurt. I'm not sure if he played the whole year at tackle which may have something to do with sacks allowed. But he does look like a good player and he is young and he is big.

According to their depth chart he's listed as a backup RT and not anywhere at guard and he's list as an OT on walterfootball.com but i honestly don't know anything about him. What I really noticed is like you said, young and big and available.

Here's a little good and bad about him......2008 Season Retrospective: Ray Willis - Field Gulls

Re: If Nothing Changes Come Draft Day, Who Would You Draft

brown (ravens C) or stacy andrews (OG) would help too...

FA some decent OL starters and nugent, draft DL.

I mean we could use TJ too, but he's 31, probably wants a bunch of money, and we already have a lot invested in WRs (without much return).

I like rocky bernard at DT, and like every year there's a ton of depth LBs out there for cheap. I rather get foxworth for cheap or dunta for money at CB then waste a lot on getting hall back here.

again, that leaves DL as our weakest position after possible FA signings and current roster consideration. taylor and daniels are ancient, we've got one backup DE and a DT position without a real #1 DT (griff's stud days are gone). The only real FA that's attainable for the skins in bernard (and he's 30 too).

so i'd look for safe DE picks, and we're in the right range to get one... I wouldn't rule out a DT though, as 1st round graded DTs tend to be one of the safest picks a team can make (as far as bust %).

I thought that Vinnie was going to build through the draft and do it right this time.
You know, stay away from making several big money salary cap unfriendly free agent moves.

Its a viscous circle.

Synder has been impatient with HCs.
Before Gibbs, Synder didn't allow any HC to establish or create a Redskins identity a 'system' if you will.
Synder meddles in the player personnell dept. making it hard for the coach to get the players he wants.
Skins fall for the quick fix through free agency and get hamstrung with horrible contracts and players that don't fit the system/scheme.

The coach gets fired, the whole thing starts over.
If we would just stick with a coach and stick with a system we would have more success.

Now we have a budding system in place and coaches gaining knowledge and continuity within that system. Maybe its time to let the coaches develop players instead of chasing players that were developed by other teams for different systems?

Living off of free agency imo is tacitly admitting that we can't develop procure and develop talent.
I thought that this was over, i hope Vinnie/Synder can control themselves during this upcoming free agnecy.

THAT GUY- this post isn't directed at you, just how crazy things get before free agency,
i'm hoping its much ado about nothing

1st Round- Orakpo trade down Cushing/Mauluaga/Barwin
3rd Round- Mack/Luigis BA Center (that can play guard until..)
5th Round- Jasper Brinkley LB
6th Round- Moises Fouku OLB

Don't you remember rushers like Tuck, Harrison, Suggs, and Ware coming from the outside and getting to Campbell? I don't think you can easily dismiss the need to improve at tackle.

Yeah, premiere edge rushers are occasionally gonna beat even the best OL and most of those pressure/sacks you refer to were on Jansen and an injured Samuels and a couple were on Geisinger playing out of positoin at OT.
I think the improvement will come with a healthy Samuels and the continued progress of Heyer. I thought Heyer was good in pass pro when he was in the line-up, and Buges has spoken highly of him.

The right side interior line (Rabach and Thomas) were healthy enough to play yet still struggled.
It bothered me when JC was getting pressure up the middle on a 3 step drop. I just wonder how Rabach or Thomas are gonna be able to block the likes of a Ratliff w/o a double team if they couldn't do it last year?
