Brennan's Hip a Problem All Preseason

Quarterback Colt Brennan often said he would not make excuses for his poor performance during the preseason.

As I'm finding out now, it appears Brennan had, at least in part, one legitimate excuse: a left hip injury. Brennan suffered the injury in the Redskins' preseason opener Aug. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Redskins did not reveal the injury when it occurred, and Brennan - who had surgery to repair a slightly torn labrum in his right hip in April 2008 - continued to play despite the discomfort. But the injury had an effect on Brennan's mechanics, a league source told me today, and made it harder for him to operate within the offense.

Obviously, the injury was not the cause of Brennan's poor decision-making for most of the preseason. But the Redskins knew Brennan was not operating at full strength physically. When Brennan was sacked late in the fourth quarter Thursday night in Jacksonville, he aggravated his hamstring and hip injuries in addition to tearing his hamstring. He is expected to have further tests on his hip soon.

Well, that makes a difference. Take average physical abilities and then complicate them by an injury, and that certainly would affect his performance. Agreed, it does not completely absolve him of his incredible mental errors and, in fact, shows his continued inability to play within himself (if you know you are not 100%, then you gotta play accordingly). At the same time, he may have been pressing a little once it became clear he wasn't guarranteed a spot. We'll see.

For now, however, it's all moot. He ain't gonna be playing in 2009. The hero worship will just have to wait until 2010.

Ah the Culters sure are dreamers aren't they.

Well save that dream for another day, cause it's not coming true this year.

They are only going to carry 2 QB's on the 53 man roster - saves a roster spot for another position. If they need a 3rd QB in game, probably just go with ARE then, after the game, sign Chase to the 53 man if they need him.

Odds are he will clear waivers, but there are teams that definitely might show an interest in him being a backup or 3rd stringer. I just don't see risking losing him at all since Colt is on IR. I know if looks like a safe gamble, but with our luck someone is going to snag him. We are in trouble then if JC gets pounded into the ground.

That's true whether or not we kept Chase.

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR

I think we need to worry a little more about the starting QB than the 3rd QB who is out for the yr on IR.
I guess Zorn sees something in Colt even if others dont.

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR

If we did not have ARE, I do not see that we could risk carrying only 2 active QBs...but it's a luxury that he brings. I am surprised that we did not use Colt's injury to keep both, but I trust coach Zorn's judgement. This WILL allow an extra depth position on the O-line or even RB with Mason's position on the team.

If we lose our top 2 QBs, we're screwed anyways, so it won't matter if we try to have some fun with ARE or pick up an unemployed scrub.

It looks like we arent the only team going with just 2 active QB's, hope this works out for the best.
