Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

I would argue that paying Payne is the definition of "spending money where don't need it", and there's no way they can pay Sweat, Young, Payne, & Allen.

They could save about $7 mil by releasing Thomas. If that would allow them the flexibility to add a Gesicki/Engram type, I'd be all for it.

If you got no OLinemen you need to pay, why not your
DL/DE. Draft young OL and roll with it for a few years.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

The O-line needs a complete overhaul that will involve both the draft and free agency.

Both starting Tackles will be 32 this year and are barely swing tackles. Trai Turner is garbage, Norwell will also be 32 and is average at best, Chase R is unreliable. Cosmi may pan out, but where...? The jury is still out on C Paul. He's played one game.

They will be paying O-linemen.

Leno is good for another year, same with Turner, draft a T, G and C. Charles, Paul, lucas. Atlanta and Seattle were able to do it, there’s lot OL talent in this draft.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

Maybe lost in the Wentz 'news', but McCain is gone too. Not a major loss at all, but it probably means we need to think harder about a starting corner in the draft. I agree with pursuing Wagner or the like in FA and free up picks for OL and DB primarily. I for one hour they go with a starting CB if there at #16. There are a few candidates that should be there when we pick, like Porter. Enough OL talent to shore up the line, plus there are some good FAs.

Since the season ended it's been considered an almost guarantee that D Payne would be tagged. The question is, will he then be traded...?

If they can get a 1st or high 2nd, I would, then draft his replacement.

They picked up Ridgeway as well. I think I would still rather try to trade Payne. Use that $19 mil for more pressing needs like the O-line and back 7 of the D, AND pick up another draft pick or two.

Right between him and last years DL pic (Mathis) they should be able to fill the Payne hole; we are too rich in DL and poor in other areas. Need to spread the wealth

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

Yet another typical couple days of being a Washington fan:

Saturday - Bezos not allowed to bid on Commanders

Monday - Washington Post: Dan Snyder and his attorneys demand that fellow NFL franchise owners/league "indemnify him against future legal liability and costs if he sells the team."

Tuesday early AM - Franchise tag placed on Daron Payne

Tuesday morning - ESPN: Disputed $55M loan at center of probe into Commanders

Is it any wonder why the DC fan base has mostly left? I was sick of this shit 15 years ago…we still dealing with it

Bout sums it up. Hard to keep up with 15 years of scandals and weak ass football. I literally can't believe Goodell and the other owners have protected him this long.
