Re: Update: Jerry Gray Not Taking Memphis Job

Even if Gray is considered, it would be a sly PR move fron Snyder. I think this is a move a lot of local fans would support. If it happens.

It may be their loss and our gain. I would like to see what he could do as HC but I'd rather see what he could do as our DC first if he gets the chance.

That's on Blache not on Gray he is in control of the defense and he can easily make that adjustment at anytime. So i guess that is what he wants.

Hiring Gray would not be a popular move with the fan base unless they first hired a GM who then chose Gray. Snyderatto firing Zorn and replacing him with Gray is just more of the same.

Of course all things being equal. Correct, hiring Gray in and of itself won't rally the fans, but if Snyder makes the additional changes I think it would be well received locally if not nationally.

Let me see what if I got what others are saying is correct, we take someone who does not have any Co-ordinator quality background or HCing experience and make him a HC. Sorry I don't see DS making the same mistake twice. He might get the DC job with whoever we bring in as HC.

Re: Update: Jerry Gray Not Taking Memphis Job

I hope DS brings in a GM ( Holmgren) and let him pick the coach he thinks can get Redskin Nation back to winning NFC Tittles. I could see if Holmgren is hired as GM Sherman Lewis stays as OC and Zorn could stay to 1 more year. If Zorn still can not get this team over the hump than maybe Gruden comes next season. I think Vinny will be given a new title but Holmgren will be calling the shots. This will allow the defense coaches to stay together for at least another year as well. I think Zorn can turn the team around with the right GM picking the right personal for the W/C offense. Who knows the W/C offense better than Holmgren? The Redskins have to allow the young players to get use to 1 scheme instead of trying to learn a new offense all over again this will set them back once again just when they(DT,Davis,Kelly,Mitchell) are getting use to the W/C system why change it now. We need brains at the top lets go after Holmgren.

Forgot sorry. But again how was the defense when he was there? Hopefully he has learned something while working with GW and Blache.

wiki says they were good.

"Gray served as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills from 2001 to 2005, where he oversaw one of the top defenses in the NFL until his final season."

and from redskins.com

"While with Buffalo in 2005, Gray directed a Bills defense that battled multiple injuries. The unit finished 29th in the league in total defense.

In 2004, Gray led a defense that finished second in the NFL in total defense and top five in the NFL in touchdowns allowed (29), yards allowed per game (264.2), passing yards allowed per game (164.0), sacks registered (45) and led the league with 39 turnovers forced.

He orchestrated a major defensive turnaround in 2003 when his defense finished the year ranked second in the NFL in total defense (second against the pass, eighth against the run). His defense also ranked fifth overall in points allowed in 2003."

Sounds more like he isn't getting the job more so than he's not taking it.

Yeah that article clearly sasy Memphis rejected him. Who knows the reason(s) for the rejection but I'll say coming from Snyder's organization can't help anyone.

Right...if not for the Redskins connections he probably doesn't make it as one of two finalists.
