The Washington pick was the first for Marty Schottenheimer, who took over the team after last season's disappointments. He was given complete control by owner Daniel Snyder, who spent a lot of time in the locker room in his first two years.

''Dan and I discussed before the draft a number of scenarios,'' Schottenheimer said. ''We talked about what Gardner gives us. He said, 'Do what you think is best.'''

Schottenheimer, short on receivers, obviously did. Snyder's choice was Moss, who went a pick later

Snyder reportedly preferred Moss over Gardner in the 2001 draft. But then-coach Marty Schottenheimer, who had the final say on personnel, selected Gardner with Washington's first-round pick.

I still don't quite understand the hate for McCants. I mean of course he wasn't a gamebreaker, but he was a decent 3rd or 4th receiver. He produced far more than Jacobs ever has, and he was cheaper and picked deeper in the draft. I'm not sure what everyone expected from him.
Nobody hates him, but at the same time we just don't understand the love for him. He had a couple of good games, he had 6 TD's one year. That's great, but not exactly a guy we miss in the least bit. Especially for the $$ he was being paid here.

He hasn't been able to stick with a depleted WR corps. in Philly, that doesn't say very much for him.

You said it yourself, he's a 3rd or 4th WR. I'd say he's closer to a 4th now. And most #4 guys are pretty interchangeable.

Not sure if anyone has seen it yet, but 50-50 is now on the Packers.

Sorry to hear... he has some good potential. '04 was lousy for all the Skins receivers cause the QB play was so lousy. Hopefully he catches on with another team for '06

I Liked McCants as well, I do think he was probably a player who could be playing along side Moss right now, but it was his attitude towards dedication that wounde him in the dog house with Gibbs, lets face it football isn't that important to him, and that's why he's out of here, Gibbs was rebuilding the attitude and mindset first and formost when he took over, he couldn't have McCants dragging that down.

I liked McCants for the same reason people like Betts. He was a Washington draft pick, that occasionally show signs of promise. He was by no means a game breaker, but he was a decent red zone target. And with the numbers all of the receivers, not named Moss have put up, he might have been a nice change of pace for Brunell, at 6'3" and 214 lbs.

The way Farve is throwing Rod was always pretty good as a defender when the ball was going to be intercepted.

Re: Panthers Drop Rod Like He's Hot

Update drop it like its hot just dropped another.

so far he is 0/2

EDIT 30 minutes later Rod catches a ball!!!

he is 1/3. He is even worse than 50/50

EDIT AGAIN
ok i don't know if anyone cares but to update. Rod just made an amazing 22 yard play. Remember he makes the hard plays but fails to make the easy ones

He as 2/4 exactly 50/50

does the dropping of Gardner have any effect on the pick we received for him.

So, each and every person who was involved in the Skins' draft that year who pushed for Gardner ought to be BANNED from the scouting and drafting meetings for a decade. And that should include Danny Boy and Vinnie Boombatz if either of them even said "Boo" on the subject!

Sign Marty up for that one, he was the one that wanted RG while Danny Boy wanted to draft Santana Moss.
