When he rushes the passer he simply could not beat NFL tackles. I remember he was being compared to Freeney. Not even close.
I totally agree he is out of position at OLB, but I don't believe he would be a fit as 3-4 ILB. He is much slower than any other ILB on our roster, he would be the worst ILB in coverage and I think he would struggle to change directions and get to the hole if he didn't initially make the right read.

He is more of an ILB in a 4-3 who can play down near the line in an over front. (Not my idea, Cooley and others are beating this drum on 980 every time his name comes up)

To be blunt, I don't think he is a good fit any where in our current defensive scheme based on what he showed last year.

Do you think he is fast enough, and quick enough to play ILB in a 3-4?

No idea where he would fit in nickel.

Why are we making offers to non dominant players?

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018

I don't get Bruce Allen. He has got to be the dumbest front office person ever. We need another big body in the middle. A 1st and 2nd down guy to go along with Allen and Co. We need to get more sturdy in the middle so when we're in that stupid ass base 3-4 guys that you didn't want( Alfred Morris) don't run for like 200 yards. There are or were guys out there. You pay for what you get just like last year when you paid McClain and McGee. Go get one of the top guys and let him be part of the rotation, or a guy that you can put over the center and let him dominate there. Instead you're chasing Cowboy rejects.

Would rather have Hankins, but I don't mind McPhee.

And why would anyone care about losing Crowder next year? Don't let the door hit you in the ass buddy.

Wow, that is rough. If Paul Richardson can open the slot area a little more, then Crowder may turn into the comeback player of the year.

Although he should never ever touch another punt return!

I think returning punt (or muffing them over and over) was a huge blow to Crowder's confidence.
When you make a mistake like that you feel bad for your teammates and it can get into your head. He was not himself last season.

Not having a deep threat didn't help him either.

Yeah, maybe a little rough, but this is what I was getting at.

If he's the same player next year that he was last year, I'm not offering him anything.

Having said all that, I hope to see some improvement back to his earlier days.

Are you thinking that we won't be able to afford Hankins if we sign McPhee? I'm confident that if the Skins can sign Hankins they'll just cut McClain to gain some cap space.

As bad as he was, I'm not sure cutting McClain is a great idea: over the cap says he has 7,25M fully garanted (dead cap is 3,75M in 2018. 2,5M in 2019. 1,25M in 2020).
So I don't know exactly how this works, (like if we cut him know do we owe him 3,75M or 3,75+2,5+1,25 ?) but cutting him now will only free a little less than 1M in 2018.

McClain's contract was re-written to be guaranteed for injury only.

I read that somewhere but can't find anything about it... and I don't get why anybody would accept that...

Like "-hey could we restructure your contract in order to fire you without owing you sh*t? -yeah sure, do you have a pen?"

I think they can, but it'll be tough. I really hate the Scandrick signing. Take that away and McPhee and Hankins is no problem. And I'd much rather have McPhee than Scandrick.
