Re: Redskins Offseason Thread

Perception is everything, and right now the perception is that Redskins executives wanted these girls to play hostess to high rollers at private parties.

I'm guessing the girls sat on this for a while until they realized the public generally doesn't care about cheerleaders or the below-minimum wage they make. This might even be the turning point for them to be fairly compensated.

Was hoping this might be the turning point for DS to sell the team? A guy can dream.

Same reason as everything else: money. The NFL has it and they want more of it.

Some of these girls make ...maybe 50$ a game. They do deserve more than that if you want them to represent your team in a professional manor. As I said I just don't think there is a need for "cheerleaders " in pro football.

I have no problem with them fighting for a larger share of the pie. They are underpaid for the hours they put in.

$50 seems really low...and an outlier. Is there any honest numbers out there? Or just ones given to get a response such as this?

Simply put, find a new job and know your worth.

I mean like these groups not single victims, if this was so bad 5 years ago you would think SOMEONE would have stepped up... Kinda getting old now, the boy who cried wolf kinda thing.

Have you not been paying attention to the news the past year?

Women (and some men) who have been sexually harassed (or worse) are speaking out. In most cases, the abuse happened years - even decades - before. Why didn't they speak out sooner? Because they didn't think they could (without repercussions). Like the entertainment industry, the sports industry is dominated almost entirely by powerful rich white MEN. There is the fear of, not only losing your job, but not being able to find another job of being blacklisted.

I get what u are saying on the matter but It's still a ? on the whole story, also some cheerleaders from the squad that yr have tweeted denying any harm doing to them. It just seems like the redskins are an easy target due to the name and they are doing everything they can to force the issue enough to change it. Also as far as rich white men, yes owners are mostly white but players are mostly NON White. Those athletes are really rich too so its not like they are just out there playing for dirt cheap.

Agreed.
Also, I think shame and fear of being judged is a huge factor, for any woman sexually assaulted and especially for women using their body to earn money.

But what are they victims of? Was Bill Cosby or Darren Sharper on this trip slipping things into their drinks and making them show their tits? These girls took their tops off, went out w/ these dudes... and now want to cry about it 5 years later? If your boss tells you to pull your pants down in front of other employees are you going to do it. C'mon. This is ridiculous. Terminate the head of the program and sweep this under the rug. Now, if one of these guys tried to rape a girl, different story. Doesn't sound like this was the case.

I think women are finally feeling empowered to speak up, thanks to the #metoo movement. Good for them.

Also, while it does seem that the journalist has an agenda, that really doesn't have anything to do with whether or not what these women described actually happened. The facts are the facts. IF what is being reported is actually true, then it was clearly WRONG and everyone involved in this needs to be fired. Hopefully other teams will learn from this and ensure they are treating all of their employees properly.

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread

I will add in that Kate Upton made a huge splash (allow time for mental image) in 2013 with her body painting SI edition - I am sure JR has extra copies if anyone wants to buy one.

That was right around the time of this shooting, and I imagine both from the director's point of view as well as any of the cheerleaders that might have wanted to have a modelling career and portfolio, the topless body painting was a "IN thing" at the time.
