Re: Cooley put on IR

Cooley got nicked up a bit last season also. He has seen a lot of action since Gibbs drafted him. I hope Shanny retains him, but the taeam might decide to draft another TE or get a younger FA.

We need to replace Hail to the Redskins with this song at least temporarily.

We do have Paulsen. He's no Cooley but he looked pretty solid. Surprised me.

So close dude.... It wasn't after the season, he was actually cut last week to repair his knee.

Re: Cooley put on IR

They might need to give Davis, Cooley's current cap number to resign him ($5 to $6 million a year).

Cough cough, if Davis keeps giving up catchable balls he might not be retained either.

Make no mistake, Davis will be resigned. More than last week's drop, I have a bigger issue with Davis not fighting hard for two balls that ended up Grossman picks in the Philly game. Both were decent throws, where premier tight ends like Gonzalez and Gates fight to make plays on the ball.

Re: Cooley put on IR

I'm hoping this is for the best for CC & the Skins. Love me some Cooley. Here's how I see it:

1) This may be the end of football for him. Doesn't sound good that he's coming off an operation on that knee & it still has bothered him. He wasn't the same player this year as last, much slower. He's a smart guy that has a life outside football, so I wouldn't be surprised if he walks away while he still can rather than risking a long-term injury.

2) I seriously hope that this is not a case where we get to see the cold, heartless side of B. Allen. The bright side is I think Shanny will want him back if he's healthy. A pay cut in the form of a new deal w/incentives would be ideal.

3) Cooley has shown he's a team guy. He won't complain about being a backup & he wants to finish his career in DC. The team should always find a way to work something out w/guys like him. Hope that's the case.

Davis needs to learn how to use his height advantage and attack the ball. There's no excuse for him being outjumped by a shorter DB.

I hope at the end of the season someone compiles the numbers on injuries league wide. It sure seems like there have been a lot more on all the teams. I have no clue if that is just an impression I have or it is really the case.

Sigh. Hate to see a fan favorite like Cooley go down. And he needed to stay healthy and prove he still belongs this year in the worst way. I hope he comes back strong next season though.

Re: Cooley put on IR

We've always needed a youth movement, but we also need veteran players. I don't understand why everyone is so eager to get rid of a veteran like Cooley. Those that make the money argument have a point, and it will be a dialogue between Cooley and the team that I am sure will happen in the future. I do appreciate the fact that younger players are going to get more playing time, but people are talking like Cooley is 42 years old (he's only 29). You can't win with a whole bunch of old players, but you do need some balance when it comes to age.

I hope Cooley is able to come back strong next year. HTTR.

this. Granted, we have FD making a strong case, but still CC is not finished, and we would be foolish to let him go, unless we get a good trade, and I mean a very good trade.
