Colt has a dynamism and a leadership ability that you can't teach. He's a born quarterback, and there aren't a lot of those. Winning is about more than just the physical dimension. Colt has a daring that will pay much more dividends than a play it safe quarterback. He is learning to work within the system so that Coach Zorn can trust him not to excessively improvise. He will do that and rise to the top. Eventually, Colt will be a Super Bowl winning quarterback, and I believe it will be with the Redskins.
Right. Get real. If he hadn't gotten hurt he may have been a practice squad player. He's got eons to go before he's even a capable back up, let alone starter.

Breaking news out of Redskins Park:

Frustrated at being cut by the Redskins, QB Chase Daniel stuffed all the footballs he could find into his cheeks and darted off the premises, leaving equipment managers scrambling to find some footballs for tomorrow's practice.

First of all, hard to take you seriously when you start with Colt's weakest component. In college, in a WAC conference, and with a run & gun offense, maybe he had "remarkable physical ability". In the pros, he has incredibly average physical ability. Does he have 4.3 speed that I somehow have missed? A cannon arm that he has carefully kept under wraps? What exactly about his physical ability is "remarkable".

As to his intangibles - you call it "dynamism", I call it "arrogance"; you call them "instincts", I call them "bad decisions". He tries to write checks that his body just can't (and will likely never be able to) deliver. This may change in time, but right now he plays with a style that his abilities can't support on a pro level.

Absolutely, QB'ing is more than physical. But you must have the tools to play the game. If he wants to be a gunslinger, he needs to drastically improve his arm strength. Either that, or play like Montana who, not having a gun for an arm, made good decisions with the ball. So far, in two preseason, he has not shown that. In fact, if anything, he seems to have regressed this year.

It's pretty funny the bizarre and/or angry reaction some people have to support for Colt Brennan. Obviously Colt brings up strong feelings.

That ability to bring up strong feelings, to galvanize people, is critical to being a top quarterback. When you are a field general you need to have the ability to inspire people. It can be a double edged sword and you can galvanize people to oppose you too. But it's a sword that you can't become a great quarterback without in my view.

Players will and do feel strongly - in a positive way - about Colt. And it's similar to the way people respond to Brett Farve.

He wasn't great but he wasn't bad either. If you think about it JC played horribly in the first two games. JC only started looking good in the two last games. A whole 25 games it took him if you think about it. 5 preseason games last yr, 16 regular games, and 4 preseason games this yr. Colt has had like 8-10 preseason games. Limited time.

In regards to his mechanics; I think his foot work is ok, but apparently you are wanting to change his throwing motion he's probably been using since little league and got him to where he is now. That's not gunna happen. Look at Favre. Atlanta got rid of him cause they couldn't change his mechanics and GB capitalized on it.

As far as his terrible decision making; He's only had like 8-10 games. All using second string O-lineman. I know it was against second stringers but if your O-lineman aren't blocking and your running for your life as in the play he got injured he's not gunna learn much cause at that point your just trying to not do something stupid with the ball.

I know our Oline isn't too hot, but I guess it is hard for me to change my opinion about colt dating back to the Sugar Bowl. He saw a real defense and looked horrid. I know people have said this a million times, but Timmy Chang. Timmy Chang. I have felt this way about Colt from day one.

As for JC looking bad, I always felt he had the arm, but he was just a bit slow on his decision making. Obviously that was because he wasn't comfortable with the playbook. I didn't see the raging arrogance which lead to a ton of turnovers.

To me, I am the kinda guy who wants steady and consistent improvement. That is what I saw from JC, along with better skill(from draft day).

Well, San Francisco, Detroit, Carolina, Cleveland, Kansas City, Oakland, Denver, and St. Louis are just a few teams I could see him starting either by injury or by him just being better than most of those QB's. Matt Hasselbeck was picked in the draft in the 6th round like Brennan, was fairly average in the preseason, got to a team he had a better chance of starting with a familiar offense, then boom! he became a pro bowler. Now of course I'm not saying Brennan will be the next Matt Hasselbeck, but I am saying that if you give Brennan time to develope, and first stringers around him, he's got a shot to be a pretty damn good 6th round QB.

so if colt has been in our system for over a year and while playing against second and third string defenses in the preseason, was battling just to be a number THREE QB, how on earth can you think he could be injured, unable to practice, yetSTART for a new team running a system hes not familiar with against a starting defense during the regular season?

I'm happy they did not cut him. He is my favorite qb on this team. He wll eventually become a starter for this team. I guess we can have Chase as the number 3 this year. We can now move onto another topic than Colt vs Chase. I would have love to ee Colt in mop up duty this year at least.

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR

Okay, now I'm being lazy -- What are the restrictions for being on IR? He can't practice with the team, can he attend team meetings?

Actually, if the IR move is true and he dedicates himself to: 1) learning the playbook; 2) learning how to be a pro QB; and 3) improving his arm strenght (most important IMO). He may improve himself for the long run and, consequently, find a way to play in this league.

Honestly, his best shot may be the CFL - He could be the next Doug Flutie up north.

This is the best case scenario, they keep Colt and Daniel and next year they fight for second and third string

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR

I honestly don't want to see a player perform poorly, but I was happy we got to see Colt properly this year. And Cult members got to see his true colors. I don't know how there was a lot of positive from him.

If anything, Colt was extremely disappointing. Going from competing for number 2 to struggle for the squad. In his second year he got more time to absorb the offense and he looked worst. Obviously it was preseason, but the coaches saw similar in camp and practice too.

I'm a little mystified why we did not put him on the PUP list instead.

Yeah those 7 sacks had nothing to do with it. Balt 2nd string OWNED our 2nd string and NE had their starters in when he played..again with our 2nd string. Chase ran for his life in the last game as well with the same results.
